Scraps of Paper by Kathryn Meyer Griffith, Dawne Dominique

Scraps of Paper by Kathryn Meyer Griffith THE FIRST SPOOKIE TOWN MURDER MYSTERY
Abigail Sutton's beloved husband walks out one night, doesn't return, and two years later is found dead, a victim of a long ago crime. It's made her sympathetic to the missing and their families.
Starting her new life, Abigail moves to small town and buys a fixer-upper house left empty when old Edna Summers died. Once it was also home to Edna's younger sister, Emily, and her two children, Jenny and Christopher, who, people believe, drove away one night, thirty years ago, and just never came back.
But in renovating the house Abigail finds scraps of paper hidden behind baseboards and tucked beneath the porch that hint the three could have been victims of foul play.
Then she finds their graves hidden in the woods behind the house and with the help of eccentric townspeople and ex-homicide detective, Frank Lester, she discovers the three were murdered. Then she and Frank try to uncover who killed them and why...but in the process awaken the ire of the murderer. ***(Prequel to All Things Slip Away, Ghosts Beneath Us, Witches Among Us, and What Lies Beneath the Graves.)

About the Author

Since childhood I've been an artist & worked as a corporate graphic designer & for newspapers for 23 years before I quit to write full time. But I'd already begun writing novels at 21, 46years ago, and have had 27 previous novels & 12 short stories most originally published from traditional publishers. But I've gone into self-publishing in a big way since 2012; and upon getting most of my previous books' full rights back for the first time in 33 years, have self-published them all as well as new ones. My Dinosaur Lake novels & Spookie Town Mysteries are my best-sellers.
Been married to Russell for 40 years; have a son, 2 grandchildren and one great granddaughter and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I've been an artist, a folk rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, & I'll probably write stories until the day I die, or until my memory goes.

By: Kathryn Meyer Griffin Published By: K.M.G. Age Recommended: YA- Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: 5 Review: "Scraps of Paper" by Kathryn Meyer Griffith was a wonderful mystery read that only this author can give to the reader. This author did a good job with this mystery read with had 'secrets from the past' and was there really a ghost in Abigail's new house? How did Abigail Sutton end up here? After a good marriage one night her husband leaves and never returns...only to find out after two years he had been found dead. Wanting to move on with her life, Abigail had been a freelance artistic career but she leaves it behind her and travels to a small town called 'Spookie' buys a home. However, a mystery will come out from the purchasing of this particular house ..."as she investigates the disappearance thirty years before of the previous tenants of the house she has moved into." This will really be a suspenseful ride because there are so many twist and turns in this small town disappearance of Emily Summers and her children that will only to keep you turning the pages until the end. In this read there you will be intrigued with some well developed characters that are so very captivating and even colorful only to give the reader a interesting read about this town of 'Spookie.' If you are in for a good mystery read, you have come to the right place because this author can give it all to you. Would I recommend this read? YES!

Reviewed by Michael McManus for Readers' Favorite Abigail Sutton, a graphics artist, whose husband went missing for two years but was recently found dead, moves to the small village of Spookie. She has left her old life behind, hoping to escape from the pain of losing the love of her life and to start over in another place where she can pursue her dream of being a real artist; not just someone who makes pictures for advertising. From the moment that she enters the quaint little town, she falls in love with its shops and stores and the people who run them. On her very first visit to the little diner on Main Street she meets a local Realtor, who in only four tries finds a house that is perfect for her. Unfortunately, along with getting the deed to the property, Abigail also inherits its mystery. Many years ago a mother and her two children disappeared from the house, and our transplanted artist becomes compelled to find out why. With the help of a retired cop, with whom she begins a close friendship, and in the face of more than a little danger, she works through clues old and new to solve a thirty-year-old crime. “Scraps of Paper” is a well-constructed mystery with just the right mix of good guys and bad guys, with a sprinkling of oddballs and misfits thrown in. Kathryn Meyer Griffin does a nice job of allowing the friendship of the book's two main characters to develop as the story progresses. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good who-done-it, set in a picturesque environment with believable characters. This is the first book in a series the author calls 'The Spookie Town Mysteries'.

Totally enjoyed this book. I started reading it yesterday and just finished about five minutes ago. Being an artist myself and my. sister a writer and book reviewer. I have what's good to read and good writers. She passed away in 2011. Now at 75 I spend my time reading. A lot. I wrote a novel my self but never had the courage to publish it. I'm also an artist as was she. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to do something about it. Thanks so much! Michele Carroll

More of a leisurely read. It is clean, so you dont have to cringe. It is different than most of the mysteries I usually read. I did enjoy it. Abigail moves to a new town, to start a new life. A place where everyone knows your business but they dont know what happen to Emily...in the end she solves the thirty year old mystery? It is the how that will make you wanna read this.AKS

Widowed Abigail Sutton moved to tiny Spooky, USA to start a new life. Little did she know that the tiny scraps of paper and notes she finds while remodeling her new home would help her solve the town’s most notorious missing-persons case, cold for more than 30 years. This is the second Kathryn Meyer Griffith novel I’ve read this year and the first in a series of Spooky murder mysteries. Griffith’s words flow easily and descriptively pull the reader into each scene. I think you’ll like her if you give her a try.
