Sea of Secrets: A Novel of Victorian Romantic Suspense by Amanda DeWees

Can love conquer the shadows of suspicion--and murder?

When innocent young Oriel Pembroke is disowned by her cruel father and takes refuge at the sumptuous seaside estate of Ellsmere, she doesn't expect to fall in love with the brooding young duke, Herron--or to find her fragile new happiness tainted by his suspicions about the death of his father. Did his uncle truly murder the late duke, or is Herron's grief tipping into madness? As Oriel tries to uncover the truth, she learns that there may be a shocking secret in her own past... a secret that could put her own life in danger.

Sea of Secrets is a masterful return to the traditional gothic romance as perfected by Barbara Michaels and Daphne du Maurier, as well as a fascinating take on Shakespeare's Hamlet reimagined for a Victorian gothic setting. Find out why Oriel's story was awarded the 2012 Reward of Novel Excellence and has been hailed as "a beautiful and suspenseful novel that is a pure pleasure to read" (InD'Tale Magazine) and "a haunting, gripping saga that will keep you flipping the pages" (Gothic Romance Reviews). Whether you are a fan of historical mysteries, coming-of-age stories, or richly imagined women's fiction, you won't want to miss Sea of Secrets.

I admit I was a bit surprised at how thoroughly I enjoyed this book. It's definitely a page turner. I highly suggest starting it when you have a good chunk of spare time because you will not be able to put it down once you start. "Sea of Secrets" has betrayal, love, intrigue and the paranormal. A great Gothic read from a very promising author.

This story takes unrealistic turns and leaves too many loose ends

I wish the main characters inteligence was made more believable by remaining consistent throughout the entire novel. Otherwise i would have given it five stars with only one other minor complaint.....the romance was confusing and abrupt at times and a bit too G rated for my taste. But those are personal preferences only and not a writing flaw or mistake. In the end, i recommend as a light and enjoyable read.

Sea of Secrets by Amanda DeWees Rating 5***** This book was provided by the author in exchange for honest literary review. Everything about this novel is just amazing. It takes you on a trip through time were women still wore ball gowns and men knew what chivalry meant. Blending the rich details aristocrat life with betrayal, deception and murder made for a novel I couldn't get enough of. Oriel is disowned by her father after the death of her brother. While digging around in he family bible, she learns she has powerful family ?. She then sets out to befriend the dutchess and hope for a station in her home. Dutchess Gwen does so much more for her long lost niece, she takes her in and makes her family. Once she arrives at the Duke's beautiful estate, she learns that nothing is as it may seem. While their is every luxury known to man, the walls hold secrets....some of those that can cost lives. Oriel starts a journey of blossoming into womanhood. Never has she been free to live and experience life and suitors. Maybe even find a husband! From the start there is strange happenings and a sense of foreboding. The author does such an awesome job of developing this plot. From the first pager it just draws the reader in. Each page is Better than the on before it! The characters are real and have depth. Some of them I loved, some I seriously couldn't stand. That is a mark of a good author though. I am not usually a romance fan unless it Jas a paranormal factor, but The hint of a ghost story was just am added bonus to this story. Overall it is a recommended read for ages 16+ . This is one of those books you keep on the frequently read shelf, and reread it from time to time. Go get your copy today!!!!! Michelle McQueen

Amanda DeWess has done it AGAIN. Captured me into yet another book-a different book, but yet--amazing! I love a good adventure to what feels like another world, and this certainly is that. I felt like I could relate to some of what Oriel was feeling (ps-LOVE that name! If I were to have future children-I could see that being in the running) and how she was left, and especially the father! How ironic that the family is going through things and she has to find a way to cope through it, but in turning to...him. I didn't know quiet how I felt about him. When the father has a happening I thought for certain there were some secrets about to be divulged. This book does not let you down, probably one of the easiest reads, and gives you that escape you look for in a book. Looking forward to reading more from Amanda DeWess, incredible author!  I also highly recommend this book to all my friends and any potential readers, it will not disappoint.
