Searching for Cibola by Bill Lloyd

Lawrence is at a crossroads. His wife Rachel has left him and his close friend John is dead. He moves from Los Angeles to the mountains of New Mexico where he delves into his past, searching for clues to help him understand how he arrived at this point in his life. As he struggles to construct a coherent narrative he discovers that the truth can be as elusive as the Seven Cities of Cíbola sought by Coronado more than four hundred years before.

"the natural dialectal evolution of individuals interacting with each other and with happenstance . . . Beautifully written"
