Have you ever looked at your beloved children and wondered: What in the world am I doing? Why did God trust me of all people to raise them? Motherhood is the most difficult job many of us will ever take. Moms today are busy, overwhelmed and stressed. Many feel underqualified.

Searching for Sanity offers moms an opportunity to take a breath, dig into the Word, and learn from parents of the past. In short devotions designed for busy moms, this book explores the parents of the Bible both the good and the bad. Some of the parents within the pages of God's Word set great examples for us to follow; others made huge mistakes. In Searching for Sanity, you'll learn from both. The wisdom of God's Word, paired with the experiences of another mother-in-training, will help moms find sanity in the midst of chaos.

Unbeaten Review: Title: Excellent I love this new book by Lindsey Bell!! She has the book set up in a very useful format so that the study can be done 5-days a week over a 10-week period. She starts the week with a little story about different conflicts, then goes on to tell you what scripture to read each day, along with a short story. At the end of each day, she has reflection questions, further scriptures to read, a prayer, a journal activity, and a takeaway note. There is also a study guide at the back of the book that can be used for group studies of this book. This is a book that I recommend to everyone facing battles and challenges. I’ve already recommended it to many friends and family. Searching for Sanity Review: Title: Excellent Devotional for Parents Searching for Sanity is a great book for parents. It is set as a study over 52-weeks and includes a short story, reflection questions, a prayer, and daily activities to complete. The end of the book includes references, biblical parents that you can look up and reference back to the specific week they are mentioned in, a list of key bible verses, and money-saving tips. I highly recommend this book to parents who are looking for a biblical guide to parenting. I’ve recommended this book to my friends and family and they are looking forward to reading this book.

I gained a lot from this book. I think when you've been familiar with the Bible for most of your life and when you've read through it, especially certain stories multiple times, you take for granted that you know it pretty well. At least I would say that I'm guilty of that. I will confess that one of the weeks (give me a little grace, I was somewhat sleep deprived) I thought that the author was recounting the story wrong. Turns out when I went back later and really checked the scripture reference, I had only been remembering part of the story and I was the one who was mixed up. This was a huge reminder to me how important it is not to take my knowledge for granted and to keep reading my Bible to know it better. There is also a tendency to forget that these aren't just stories and characters but that these were real people and real parents who had their own share of struggles in addition to the "normal" everyday that we face with our children's behaviors. Lindsey Bell reminds us that we have more in common with these "heroes of the faith," and I love the practical ways she offers for us to apply what we've learned and to become the parents God wants us to be.

Searching  For Sanity, by Lindsey Bell is a great and resourceful daily devotional book every home should have!  Lindsey takes you through each week of the year encouraging you, challenging you, reassuring you and mostly blessing you with God’s unfailing promises.  Regardless of the ages your children are, this book can be applied.   Lindsey openly expresses her own failures, weaknesses and with her readers, commits to improving throughout the same daily process she invites you to take.  This book will encourage you to dig deeper in God’s word, it will introduce you to wonderful Bible stories full of ordinary people just like you and I, learning to make sense of this “life” here on earth.  It will encourage you to be a better mom, wife, sister, friend and community member, while bringing your family along with you.  This would be a great source for a Mom’s group or Women’s Bible Study.

As a mother of two young children, I highly recommend this book. I love the way that Lindsey draws from the scriptures and relates them to her life experiences as a parent. The weekly challenges at the end of each chapter are great to apply the lesson to everyday life as well. Every chapter I read blessed my heart and encouraged me as a Christian mom. It is a must read!

I’ve always remembered what my doctor said to me after our first child was born: “If you want parenting advice, look in the bible.” Lindsey Bell has done just that with her devotional Searching for Sanity. Ms. Bell is the mother of two children, one biological and one adopted, and has endured multiple miscarriages. These life experiences give her a broad base of personal understanding of a mother’s journey. Her writing indicates they have also grown in her a compassionate heart and a tenderness towards struggling mothers. The book is broken into 52 chapters for a year’s worth of weekly readings. Many of the weeks highlight a particular bible figure. Some are well known (Noah, Job, Mary.) Others are less well known, like Jochebed or Manoah. There are also chapters deriving lessons from Psalms and Proverbs. Some of the individuals are worth emulating. Others... not so much! It's very useful to have those cautionary tales! Each chapter begins with a scripture, followed by a devotional. For the chapters about bible figures, the author discusses an aspect of the individual's character or experience that relates to a facet of parenting. After the devotional, readers can ponder the reflection questions and pray a simple prayer. Ms. Bell has also included five activities for each chapter. The activities range from contemplative journaling to fun games to play with your kids. Searching for Sanity is set up to be used as a year long devotional, doing one chapter each week. But I wouldn’t skip over it if you are looking for a daily devotional for mothers. The writing is rich and thoughtful. You could pick and choose from the activities if you decided to read through at a faster pace. Overall, I am very impressed with this book. It is biblically based, but is not legalistic. Ms. Bell encourages mothers to pray, to seek God, to grow in Christ. She does not hand down formulas or to-do lists. She doesn’t guilt trip. She is transparent about her own struggles and compassionate toward mothers who are doing the hard work of parenting real kids.

What a terrific book for new moms! I wish Bell had written this book when my kids were little. My soul would have been refreshed and rekindled for another day. The biblical characters she writes about are real people we all can learn from. This is the baby shower gift that I plan to give to my expecting friends and family. SS in MO

This book is a must read for all parents or expecting parents-to-be. It is a fresh perspective on parenting, using examples from the Bible. But more than a rehash of stories we've read before, Lindsey shows us how the principles apply to our modern parenting. What's more, Lindsey lays out a foundation and activities with which to create a solid parenting plan. No matter what phase of parenting you're in, by pointing us in the direction of the Bible, Lindsey shows us how to have direction in parenthood. This book is profound and yet an easy read. The devotions can be used daily or weekly and great in conjunction with a journal. I'm mom to three kids and wish I would have had this when expecting our oldest. It is one of the best parenting books I've read...unlike any other.

Everything ties in to help you retain and maintain and ultimately draws you closer to God , if you allow your eyes to be opened and your heart to be softened. ~NRamirez

"Searching for Sanity" is a must-read for any parent who has ever wondered what on earth they are doing! The author presents parents of the Bible as relate-able people, who struggled with the same issues that parents struggle with today. As the mother of 3 children, ages 5 to 12, this book was an immense blessing to me. I especially love that each daily devotion is brief enough for even the busiest parent to fit into their day, yet packed with great wisdom. Lindsey Bell shows that while we may not have a specific instruction manual for raising our kids, we do have some excellent examples in the Bible!
