About the Author

Brenda Ashworth Barry’s first book was a memoir titled, Healing the Voices Within, which was never published but sponsored on a local TV station and flew off the shelves at her Healing Center in Redding California.

Her most recent work is a four-part saga of star-crossed lovers separated by the war in Vietnam, entitled Seasons of Love and War. Brenda worked for over five years to bring the four part Saga alive.

Brenda lives in Roseburg, Oregon, by the Umpqua River, and has raised four children three birth children and one adopted born in her heart. Her husband, who was in the military for 21 years, gave her help and encouragement while writing her novel. When she’s not writing she can normally be found walking the trails with her husband and their little dachshund, or in their RV enjoying nature.

A must read! Brenda Ashworth Barry was able to merge scenes from the Vietnam war and a heart throbbing romance seamlessly. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I couldn't put the book down. Wonderful story!

I did dig this book but I have to be honest and say that the POW scenes were hard to read. They were heart breaking and seemed so real. I was not happy with Beth Ann's choice but decided to review this book after giivng it some thought because even though I don't understand how she could have done what she did. The book keep me moving forward and wanting to know what happned next. I will read book 2

Seasons of Love and War is a love story set in the Vietnam war error, that deeply tugs at the reader's emotions. One young man, Kaylob, goes off to war but many people are affected. His fiancée, Beth Ann is tortured over the thought that he is dead and begins to have visions of what he is going through deep in the war torn jungles. This is when the story real turns into a page turner and how exciting it becomes for the reader as you experience the physical and psychological toll that the Vietnam war put onto both the soldiers and those who loved them.

A heartbreaking emotional story! ‘Seasons of Love and War’ is a truly thrilling story of love lost, hope, and everlasting eternal love. The story about Kaylob Shawn O’brien and his love Beth Anne. It is a story about the tragedies of war. The Vietnam war has Kaylob fighting for his brothers of America. And while this story has the true ugliness of the battles of war interwoven in this heartbreaking tale, we are reminded of how tragic it is, and our service to are country has left many of our soldiers either dead, or given our families painful memories of our loves lost. While this may be a fiction tale, it is truly realistic in every aspect. War is mans main occupation. And no matter how heartbreaking it is, we are reminded of how important it is to serve our great country. Without the courage and bravery of our soldiers, we are helpless. Author Brenda Barry weaves her tragic tale into a series of mixed emotions. While at the beginning we are blessed with the great love story, we are taken to the rout of the terrifying ordeals of what the wars bring upon us. I was so overwhelmed with emotion by this story and I was routing for Kaylob from the beginning. As I came toward the conclusion, I couldn’t help my self as I became so emotionally attached. I literally had tears in my eyes. Brenda – thank-you; thank-you for sharing your remarkable tale of love. And let us not forget, that when our brothers in arms go fight for over seas, we say a prayer and give them a big hug before they leave.

Once again I'm surprised that this book is not getting more attention. The sweet love story that has been done in an old fashioned sense, is one that touched my heart. Yet, watching what Kaylob went through in the POW camp was something that tore at my heart strings. I had a brother who went through the Vietnam war and I saw what it did to him. This book is a must read. It takes you right back to the heart of the 1960s with music, the Vietnam war and yet there was still an innocence about our world. Loved the friendships and can't wait to continue on with this saga.

This book should have more than 5 stars. I am frankly surprised it's not getting more attention.  This book was a sweet old fashioned love story and how two people can be so effected by  the war. It brought back so many memories of the 1960s that I wanted to stay there.  What the Author was able to do is take you back in time and show you how you should never give up hope. So often we just give up and forget that God might have another plan. I loved this book from the start to finish and plan on reading every book in this saga. It touched me deeply and I am thankful for this new author and this Saga.

This is a well written beautiful Love/War story about the lives of two young people in love and the incredible  bond between them, written by Brenda Ashworth Barry, who made it easy to feel the painful time Beth Ann went thru after hearing news about Kaylob's MIA status. It was also made clear that Beth Ann had a good  support system with loving family and friends to help her thru all this. So looking forward to the next chapter of the "Seasons of Love and War" saga....

I liked the book a lot . I will follow the saga. What I didn't  like about it. I thought that Jack could  have been left out of the story. What purpose did he serve. I loved everyone else, even Carol although her life style is not what I was hoping for. life style needs to change. Even though I was shocked about these issues, I loved the story. Kaylob and Beth Ann had a beautiful love story and the  war scenes were done great for a girl. Actually, they were done great period. I saw a few grammactical errors but nothing that pulled me away. I'm sure you will get those fixed. Over all I rate this book a five for the lovely story that it was and because I loved Kaylob and Beth Ann. They were so real and I felt them strong. I liked Blake too but not like I did Kaylob.Kaylob is my kind of guy.

My wife convinced me to read this book after she finished it even though she knows I'm not into romance novels. Wow was I wrong! This is more than a love story/romance. This reads like a big budget movie. I mean it had action, suspense, humor and I hate to admit it, tears. I was so moved one scene that I had to put the book down (I can't tell what part because that would spoil the book.) Trust me on this guys, you'll dig this book. It's more than a sappy love story, it's real life in the early 70's.

More than a love story. I understand that Brenda Ashworth Barry is a new Author and while I found a few grammatical errors i it didn't take me out of the story. Kaylob and Beth Ann seem like innocent and good young kids that set out to find themselves and start their life together when the Vietnam War changes their plans.I have to say that it was a great story and so well done. Kudos to  this new Author who I hope to be able to read more of her stuff and I expecting a book 2. I think we shall be hearing more about this new Author very soon. Job well done!!

My wife and I give this five stars with no problems. We waited a long time to read this and it didn't disappoint. We've been following the website and blog for years The military scenes and the war was a hard flash back for me, but the POW scenes were gut wrenching. The characters were believable and my wife and I didn't agree with a few things. I was unhappy with Beth Ann and my wife understood. But all in all it was a great read and story. We hear there is going to be a book 2 and would like to know how soon it will be out. We are giving our copy to my sister and she will be reading it next. .

what a great story. Not only is this a love story but it's a story about friendship and the ties that bind.  I loved everything about this book even though the scenes in the POW camp were  heartbreaking and  seemed so real.  Beth Ann's melt down was heart wrenching. The book kept me on the edge waiting to see what happened next.I would recommend this book .

Didn't want to put it down.  These two childhood sweethearts are the real deal and set off to start their life together. The era is during the Vietnam war and they are from a small town of Novato California when it was still innocent. Beth Ann wants to be a Broadway star and Kaylob a Chef. But their dreams are interrupted when he is drafted into the Army. I promise you will fall in love with Beth Ann and Kaylob and all the characters in this book. Talk about tension when Kaylob vanishes and is declared dead. But is he? I won't tell. But I promise this book will keep you on the edge, making you laugh, cry and have so many other emotions. The end will leave you wondering but I hear book 2 is on the way.

I can't say enough about this book! It's one of those books you don't want to end. The characters in this book are alive for me. I keep waiting to meet them in real life. Brenda knows how to pull you in with her characters.  I would recommend this book for anyone. Male or female.  The war scenes are right on and the love is felt deeply.

I absolutely am loving this story! I have never read a story like this that shows both sides of the guy in a POW camp and also from what the girl and the family went through at home. I'm 2/3 of the way through,  and I am hooked on this authors' style . Cindy W

What a story!  I couldn't put it down until I was finished and man did it leave me hanging.  I can't wait for the second book. About the story.  Kaylob and Beth Ann are childhood sweethearts coming of age in the gut wrenching 60's.  Just when they had got their lives together Kaylob gets drafted causing their love and their lives to turn upside down.  This is more than a romance, more than a love story.  This book has action, drama, laughter and tears.  When I looked her up I was shocked to see this is her first book.  Wow!  Buy this book, you won't be able to put it down.

I thought this book was wonderful. Seasons of Love and War is not only a Historical Romance but a coming of age story of two childhoood  sweethearts who set off to start their life when Kaylob is drafted and has to leave to go fight in the Viet nam war. After the first tour he  goes back again and that's when the stuff hits the fan.  But then on his second tour he get taken into one of the worst POW camps. I won't spoil and say if he survives. But this book had tension on every page.I could notput it down. I hear there is a book two and that's a good thing because it left me screaming for more.
