Following in the footsteps of The Truth, Secrets: Diary of a Gutsy Teen begins as the thirteen-year-old protagonist makes a move with her family to a new town. She has grown up a lot over the past year—and has made a list of everything that’s important to her now that she doesn’t want to forget when she gets older. But now, as she enters her early teen years, she begins to write down the secrets she wants to keep—and the ones she has no one to tell about. From new school experiences to a new baby in the family to a new crush, this new teen finally feels empowered on making her own decisions with confidence and keeping those secrets she holds dearest for herself.

In a positive and supportive diary-entry format, Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein encourages tween and early teen girls to carry the most precious parts of themselves into adulthood. A great book for mothers and daughters to read together, Secrets is aimed to improve communication, understanding, and self-esteem for young girls as they enter the rocky road of teenager-dom.

Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Reviewed by Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite Secrets: Diary of a Gutsy Teen is a diarized book written by Barbara Becker Holstein. Reaching a critical point in her life when her mother is pregnant, the family has moved into a new home and the children are about to begin at a new school, a young girl decides to keep a diary of her life. Now thirteen years of age, she leaves behind her very best friend, but keeps in touch via Facebook and telephone. The boy she was madly in love with was also left behind. She bounces back and forth between her love and hate for the new baby for always stealing her thunder, but she quickly makes a new best friend, falls in love with a new boy who, she insists, has a crush on her and, unfortunately, falls victim to the new school’s bullies because of her choice of a new best friend. Keeping a diary is the only way for her to let out her emotions and document everything which is making her crazy, making her laugh, making her cry, and making her thankful for what she has in life. Barbara Becker Holstein’s book has thrown me back to my own childhood when I kept a diary for all of the same reasons. Many times, I would find myself smiling (or even giggling) while reading, as I rolled my eyes at how ‘true’ are the feelings of the young girl. I was able to relate to almost every single world from when I was a child. I feel that the book would have had even more impact, however, if the girl writing the diary was given a name, even if only mentioned once for the sake of connection. Her obsession with her own looks is a problem which so many young people have, and I was impressed with how Barbara Becker Holstein tackled that issue. Secrets: Diary of a Gutsy Teen is a wonderful book which many younger readers will easily relate to, while taking older readers back to their own childhoods. I recommend this book to readers aged 12 and older, as well as the young at heart. This book should ideally be stocked in the home libraries of families with children and in school libraries worldwide.

This is not your normal fictional type of story. This book is that of so much more! It's a great book for all ages but fantastic for teens! How many can remember writing in that special diary that we'd keep hidden and dare someone to find it and read? How many times did we write down our most private secrets and dreams, things that one day we wanted so bad to happen? I can't express how much this book is just absolutely amazing! I would strongly recommend this book to be a MUST read for 2015! *Received for an honest review*
