For the seasoned practitioner of meditation, that is those who have had some experience in Buddhist or Taoist methods, Lu Kuan Yu presents a truly insightful guide for those who have not yet had the oppourtunity to meet a learned teacher. Chapters include those on the Surangama Sutra, the Ch'an/Zen methods, the Pure Land school, the Tien Tai school, and the Taoist meditation as well as their yogic practice; all with the author's explantory brackets and passages taken from various sources. He also dispels the notion that occidentals are not able to unite with the Buddha Dharma and presents the phenomena of the involuntary movements experienced from efficient meditation. Beginners might find the book a bit heavy in terminology and doctrine, but it will become understandable after one takes this work into consideration for sometime, and has faith in the practice. Recommended.
