Normally, a book like this wouldn't find its way into my hands, but I will admit that being a fan of The Real Housewives of Atlanta made me a little curious. A modern day book of manners, Secrets of the Southern Belle is filled with tips on how to live a fabulous life as a "lady" and how to do things "properly". Like most books of its kind, there are guidelines on relationships, keeping a home, work life, and entertaining. Parks' humor and southern twist makes those old standards fun to read. And yes, she gets a few jabs in, like what to do when someone attempts inappropriate communication with your significant other (looking at you, Kenya) and other reality show related tidbits. I'm not necessarily the target market for this book, but it could be helpful for young women who need guidance on the appropriateness of certain behaviors and situations.

Phaedra is the truth and people should take note! This book is needed for many!

She makes a negative and condescending comment about women from the north at the very beginning of the book. She should be reading about social graces and how to act like a lady. Instead of trying to write about them. Perhaps something written by a lady from the north?

I will be honest I only watch a few espisodes of RHoA during it entire series. I am very impress with this book that Phaedre Parks has written. Very detail in my opinion. Of course being from the Midwest with Southern roots. I enjoy reading it (read it twice) would recommend it to anyone that needs explanation and why on tips on being a lady. Kudos to Phaedra Parks!!!

Its ironic book written about manners has so many unnessesary jabs taken on the north. I can't help but think most of this book is for entertainment. A lot of the "southern belle " suggestions of how to handle things are a bit over the top & not realistic. Regardless there are a lot of good suggestions in this book that so many women need to hear! Better books on manners I have read are How to win friends by dale carnegie How to be a lady by can bridges How to be a lady by sarah tomczak Because a lady doesn't feel the need to tell you you're unfortunate because you were born in the north.
