Amanda McCabe finds herself on a cross-country journey to look for her brother. She thought he had died in a motorcycle crash, years earlier, but an old friend she ran into told her he had spotted him in the city where he was living. On her trip an old high school crush develops into a new passionate love affair. She then finds, and she reunites with her daughter who she had to give up for adoption years earlier. Finding her daughter makes her want to pursue her dream of becoming a private investigator so she can help others find their love ones. Meanwhile, her once loving family is falling apart over money, greed and murder. Amanda is devastated by the deteriorating effects that greed has had on her family. She is also disturbed by the destruction that her brother's secret gas drilling has had. Especially, on the once beautiful landscape of the family's property, on Shay Hill, near her home town in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
