Every heart holds a secret, but some are harder to reveal than others...
England, 1812. Aster Simmons lives a quiet and orderly existence working as a secretary and indulging in her love for puzzles--until her routine is disrupted by the arrival of an impertinent Scotsman who lounges around her office like an overgrown dog. The heated glances he casts her way make her think very non-routine thoughts.

Hamish Logan, captain in the Highland Wolves, has been given a mission to protect the man working on a coded list of traitors. If the Wolves are ever to have the same rights as ordinary men, he has to prove to those in power that a wolf can be civilised. The only problem is the fascinating secretary, who makes his wolf rise to the surface and makes him want to do very uncivilised things.

When the traitors strike, Aster flees with a wolf in pursuit. But can she determine who is behind the plot against England before she forfeits her heart and her life?

About the Author

Tilly drinks entirely too much coffee, likes to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer and wishes she could talk to Jane Austen. Sometimes she imagines a world where the Bennet sisters lived near the Hellmouth. Or that might be a fanciful imagining brought on by too much caffeine.

A great storyline and wonderful cast of characters of hero, Hamish and his men (his cousin Alick, Ewan and Quinn) and the heroine, Aster. The storyline held my attention from beginning to end involving soldiers who are injected with lyanthrope genes to become wolves. A wonderful story with humor, adventure, action, romance and a bit of suspense. The characters interactions between Hamish, Aster and Hamish men, and Aunt Margaret made for an excellent and entertaining storyline. (The best part is that all of their stories are individually available on B&N at $4.99 each. There is a 4 boxed set at 7.99 that includes this Hamish & Aster; Alick & his mate; Quinn & his mate. Ewan's book is only available as a singke story on both B&N and Amazon. This is a really good HEA. Happy Reading! ******vrnb*****

I got part way through this book before realizing I've read it before. So I searched through my previous purchases and found 'The Cryprographer' by Alice Wallis-Eton. This book is a blatant plagiarism of 'The Cryptographer.' Tilly Wallace changed some of the character names and added a supernatural twist, but the plot remains the same. Beware. If the author ripped off this book, I imagine she did the same for the rest of the series.

Other than a few typos I thought this story float seamlessly from one character to the next kept me up a whole day

This is essentially Alice Wallis-Eton rewriting her Second Sons series with a paranormal twist. If paranormal is your genre, I think you will enjoy this. Personally, I prefer the original and likely won't read the remainder of the Highland Wolves series. Fortunately, I was able to get this as a free Nook book.

Starting off slow was a bit much, but as you progressed you become enthralled. Nice story, but pretty sad. Hope to see more of Hamish and Aster.

I got this one free but I would have been trilled had I bought it. I honestly got hooked and read this in a day.! It was a great love story as you could imagine but great mysteries to boot! I am excited that there are more in the Highland Wolves series! So much fun, and keeps you guessing, and of course the handsome scot. But I love that Tilly gave the main character so much spunk and brains. Can’t wait for more of her writing!
