Overview

Davey Thompson is a newly hired assistant professor at a fictitious university named Wisconsin State. He has just completed doctoral and post-doctoral studies at Harvard University under the supervision of an esteemed professor in the area of bilingual education. Unbeknownst to Davey, his major professor, Salvatore Alvarez, is a member of a secret, ancient and ruthless Spanish society named La Sociedad de la Vittoria. All members of this society are descended from members of Magellan's crew that sailed around the world from 1519-1522. The only survivors of this epic voyage returned to Spain in a galleon named La Vittoria in 1522.

The objective of La Sociedad is to return Spain to its 16th Century glory. Davey and one of his colleagues at Wisconsin State thwart La Sociedad's objectives by discovering that Professor Alvarez's research, which is being used to support an expansion of the Bilingual Education Act of 1968, is critically flawed. La Sociedad uses all the resources at its disposal, including members in key governmental positions to dissuade Davey from revealing the flaws in Alvarez's data. As a result, Davey is confronted with threats to his academic career, his life, and the lives of his wife and daughter.

He must decide whether to testify before the House Committee on Education and Labor about his findings or take the easy way out. Many insights into the day-to-day operation and myths regarding major universities are revealed in this action-packed, cerebral novel; while the web of intrigue spreads to the nation's most respected persons and institutions. One of these persons, Rafael Gonzalez, the Assistant Secretary of Education, a prominent and psychopathic member of La Sociedad, is as unprincipled and bloodthirsty as they come.
