About the Author

Hulon M. Madeley has been a career science teacher and active Christian layman for more than forty years. He began as a high school science teacher at Tallapoosa, Georgia (1958–1960) and then taught at what is now the State University of West Georgia (1963–1973), following with nine years at what is now East Georgia College (1973–1982). He then returned to his native Texas and taught at North Harris College (1982–1988) and spent his last thirteen years at Tomball College, from which he retired in 2001 at the age of sixty-six. He has taught adult Sunday school classes for thirty-six years and frequently been a visiting Bible teacher at Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.
Prior to writing this volume, he has written several short books and over a dozen technical articles for scholarly journals. His earned degrees are from Texas A&M (BS in geological engineering), the University of Oklahoma (Master of Geological Engineering), and a PhD in geology from the Ohio State University. In addition to his strong background in geology and engineering subjects, he acquired enough graduate hours in chemistry to teach in that discipline at the undergraduate level.
Experiences acquired outside the college environment are utilized in several sections of this volume. These include over a year as a petroleum geologist with a major oil company and eight years in the active US Army Chemical Corps Reserve. During these years, both the chemical officer’s basic and career courses were completed. Periodic assignments on active duty included a chemical company, chemical battalion, and three teaching assignments at chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare schools.
Serious interest in biblical insights began in the writer’s teen years and continued through his enrollment in many college-level Bible courses, which were outside his approved degree program. This formal study has been followed by decades of serious personal Bible study and countless oral and written exchanges with well-known Bible scholar-teachers, as well as many conversations with pastor friends.
