Meet the Author

My passion is writing! What could be more delicious than inventing new characters and seeing where they take you?

I'm a teacher so I spend most of my waking hours with young people. I love chatting with them and hearing their views on love and life. My students are magical, and I am honored to be part of their lives.

I've lived in Honduras, Grand Cayman, and Costa Rica. Presently, I live in Indiana with my husband, Paul. We have two grown children and three precious grandchildren, special delivery from Africa.

When not teaching, I love to hole up in our lake cabin and write -- often with a batch of popcorn nearby. (Oh, and did I mention dark chocolate?)

I enjoy getting to know my readers, so feel free to write me at: . Visit me to learn about all my books and some smart and sassy, clean teen reads: www.brendamaxfield.com Happy Reading!

This is a wonderful short story packed full of emotion!  I received an advanced copy to read and give an honest review.  What a blessing!  I sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting and couldn't believe how much of a punch it had in the amount of pages.  So many different ways this story can go, I can't wait to read the next part of the story to see how this broken family moves forward.  Brenda captured a young girls' feelings perfectly.  Anger, nervousness, anxiety, hurt, and possibly a little eagerness to mend?!?!  And Denny, well I can't wait to see how he can grow from this whole experience!

This story left me spellbound, wanting to read more. How does it end? Why did he leave them? Is he ill with a disease and just trying to reconcile with his children before he dies? So many questions. More than anything, you can watch the discovery of forgiveness, of self-less sacrifice as Courtney tries to provide a relationship for her little brother while putting her hurt and feelings aside. I cannot wait to read more!

In Seeking Christmas, Brenda Maxfield brings us a short story that looks at the true meaning of Christmas. Eighteen year old Courtney is given the opportunity to meet with her father, who left her and her family seven years ago. She chooses to being her nine year old brother Denny along to the meeting. That choice sets in motion a series of events that reminds us that Christmas isn't about ribbons and glitter, but about giving of oneself so that others may have a better future. Maxfield gives us a lot to chew on in this story, so if you need a break from the holiday rush, give Seeking Christmas a read.
