This story has so many levels. The depth and detail of each characters participation is fantastic. The story line grabbed me from the very first mention of "The woman in black". Seeking Love is an honest open revelation of the darkness that can encompass our minds and hearts when unexpected life tragedies leave us feeling alone and scarred beyond repair. The journey of Jessica finding her way out of the numbness into a seductive life-changing light of an all-encompassing complete love is so riveting and powerful I couldn’t help but be entranced. The rollercoaster of emotions with the underlying stories within the story itself are captivating. As each character and each story unfolds, I found myself more and more drawn into their lives with such anticipation of the next chapter I could not put the book down. It is a wonderfully written journey of how past experiences can hold us hostage causing retreat into ourselves and shutting out the world, until one day without warning our normal every day surroundings can manifest a path that can lead to an unimaginable passion and deep love once thought impossible. It’s a story of trusting again, believing again, and awakening a passionate heart in need of honesty and understanding. The chemistry between the main characters is almost an indescribable gravitational pull that knows no limits. The final chapter left me literally screaming out “No!” into the air around me and leaving me on the edge of my seat for the second book. I am very specific about the books I read, if it doesn’t grab me in the first few pages, I move on to the next and try again; however, this story kept me gripped with every page I turned; and when I wasn’t reading, I wanted to be. JM, I will read your next book, and your next, and you’re next. Thank you for introducing the world these intriguing characters and their spellbinding stories.

Initially, I planned to review each book in this trilogy separately. But they all flowed together so seamlessly, I decided to review them together. Jessica Matthew’s life is perfect. She loves her job as an ICU nurse, has a solid marriage, and a plans to show the ultrasound of their baby to her husband that night. The day is marred when she loses a patient. It’s ruined when a woman strides up to the nurses’ station and plunks down an ultrasound of her own, announcing Jessica’s husband is the father and she means to have him for herself. And Jessica’s life is ruined when she loses their baby the day the divorce becomes final. She’s sure she’ll never trust or love a man again. Enter Dr. Matthew Moi. He falls in love with Jessica when she slams a softball past him in an intra-hospital game. He decides he has to meet her, but when he learns her story, he knows she needs time to heal. Until his sister, who has a rare condition that causes random brain-bleeds needs surgery and is admitted to ICU. Dr. Moi requests Nurse Matthews to be on his sister’s team. Jessica doesn’t recognize the second baseman from the long-distant game. She just knows her patient’s flirtatious visitor brings out feelings she’d long ago buried. Jessica and Matthew’s story is rich and complex, with a cast of supporting characters who are as deeply drawn as the two main ones. There are Matthew’s partners in his sex-therapy practice, a set of triplets who can give the Weasley twins a run for their money in playful pranks (but with a sexual twist), Jessica’s best friend and fellow ICU nurse, Matthew’s sister, a womanizing brain surgeon, a musician neighbor, Jessica’s father, and of course her ex. The plot is full of twists and turns with an ending that completely blindsided me. While I hate cliff-hanger endings, Ms. Maurer at least warns her readers that Seeking Love, the first book in the Escaping from Darkness trilogy has one. Seeking Redemption, however, can stand alone, as can Seeking Hope. On the other hand, each book flows seamlessly into the next. So I can forgive the first cliff-hanger and give the entire series five roses. I highly recommend you carve out enough time to read all three books at once. It’s a page-burning story.

This is the first book I have read by JM Maurer. This is the first book in this series and I really liked it. 3 years ago Jessica’s entire life changed. She learned about something that she couldn’t forgive her husband for so she divorced him. They say that things happen in threes and for Jessica they did. She recently meet a man named Matthew Moi. She isn’t sure about trying her hand at relationships again. However Matthew makes her feel like no other man has before including her ex-husband. He makes her want to try again. Matthew has been biding his time to make his move with Jessica and he has found the perfect opportunity and he is going to take it. What seems to be a great first date quickly goes downhill and has Jessica running. It’s really a simple miscommunication, an assumption on Jessica’s part. While visiting her father Jessica runs into her ex-husband Jake. Jake wants a second chance and Jessica needs closure. She agrees to have lunch with him. After all the man she wants she believes she can’t have. Will Jessica give her ex-husband a second chance or will she just get the closure she needs and take a chance on Matthew? Jessica has been through so much. She has been in a deep dark depression for years. Matthew brings her into the light and makes her happy. He only wants what is best for Jessica and to help her heal. I must say I hate Jake. I could totally tell he was up to no good. What he did to her was so wrong and now all of a sudden he has proof that it wasn’t his fault or so he says. Why wait so long to try for a second chance. Why didn’t he go to the police? I am totally team Matthew. I am really pulling for them as a couple as opposed to Jessica and Jake. While this book doesn’t exactly end on a cliff hanger it isn’t tied up in a nice neat bow either. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and find out what happens next. I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Everyone has a past, but for Jessica, it is one of darkness and pain, doled out in buckets full and she has never risen from the depths of her depression. A compassionate and well-trained nurse, her positive life forces are shared with her patients, leaving none for herself. When one man enters her life like a ray of sunshine, she tries to dig herself out of the dark hole her heart has been living in. There is more to Dr. Matthew Moi than meets the eye, he knows more about Jessica then he lets on, but this fragile woman had captured his heart long before he was even a blip on her radar. Will the strength of this man be the healing balm that Jessica needs or will he lose interest as soon as she reveals how damaged she is? Seeking Love by J. M. Maurer is more than a simple love story between two people. Just as in real life, there is static and interference from others around them, are they being helpful or trying to destroy what is left of Jessica? Ms. Maurer’s writing style flows through the treacherous pages of this heart-wrenching tale as she pulls together all of the pain of her main character and shares it with us. The patience and caring from Matthew is heartwarming, because seriously, how many people, no matter their gender have the patience or heart to help another find themselves? Wouldn’t there be a risk of finding that the healed person is not who you thought they would be? M. J. Maurer has nailed the struggles Jessica faces with thoughtful respect while giving readers hope that things will get better, in spite of the dramas and possible truths she must face. Captivating reading, warm romance with a few barbs along the way. I received this copy from J. M. Maurer in exchange for my honest review.

The 2 main characters, Matthew and Jessica are so easy to relate to and you will find yourself captivated by this love story.   Get this book, you won't be disappointed.  I have already purchased her second book, Seeking Redemption and can't wait to read it.

Just finished reading Seeking Love....amazing!!!! Love how it's written like people think and talk and not like an uptight romance writer. Written in simple laymen's words that people understand. Kudos on the first book! Can't wait to read the second :) Keep up the great work!

An author doesn't have long to draw me in for a buy,but J.M.Maurer did an excellent job captivating my attention with her riveting romance. The novel took me on an emotional roller coaster ride that has left me anxiously waiting for book two of her Emerging From Darkness trilogy. Her witty sexual banter throughout the book created a refreshing lighthearted execution of sexual foreplay. Yes,those who like erotic romance won't be disappointed,it's hot, hot, hot!
