JM Maurer lives with her family in Chicago. She makes it a point to never work on a full moon and cringes when a coworker uses the “Q” word—never, never, ever say at work, “It’s a quiet day today." Known for being overly superstitious, she can usually be found scraping at the remnants of a Nutella container, screaming at a hockey game, or putting pen to paper, allowing the “real” crazy voices in her head to come alive. And after all this, it’s no wonder she’s an incurable romantic and loves escaping the rat race of life to immerse herself inside the world of a really good romance book . . . because, after all, what’s better than a happily-ever-after?

Initially, I planned to review each book in this trilogy separately. But they all flowed together so seamlessly, I decided to review them together. Jessica Matthew’s life is perfect. She loves her job as an ICU nurse, has a solid marriage, and a plans to show the ultrasound of their baby to her husband that night. The day is marred when she loses a patient. It’s ruined when a woman strides up to the nurses’ station and plunks down an ultrasound of her own, announcing Jessica’s husband is the father and she means to have him for herself. And Jessica’s life is ruined when she loses their baby the day the divorce becomes final. She’s sure she’ll never trust or love a man again. Enter Dr. Matthew Moi. He falls in love with Jessica when she slams a softball past him in an intra-hospital game. He decides he has to meet her, but when he learns her story, he knows she needs time to heal. Until his sister, who has a rare condition that causes random brain-bleeds needs surgery and is admitted to ICU. Dr. Moi requests Nurse Matthews to be on his sister’s team. Jessica doesn’t recognize the second baseman from the long-distant game. She just knows her patient’s flirtatious visitor brings out feelings she’d long ago buried. Jessica and Matthew’s story is rich and complex, with a cast of supporting characters who are as deeply drawn as the two main ones. There are Matthew’s partners in his sex-therapy practice, a set of triplets who can give the Weasley twins a run for their money in playful pranks (but with a sexual twist), Jessica’s best friend and fellow ICU nurse, Matthew’s sister, a womanizing brain surgeon, a musician neighbor, Jessica’s father, and of course her ex. The plot is full of twists and turns with an ending that completely blindsided me. While I hate cliff-hanger endings, Ms. Maurer at least warns her readers that Seeking Love, the first book in the Escaping from Darkness trilogy has one. Seeking Redemption, however, can stand alone, as can Seeking Hope. On the other hand, each book flows seamlessly into the next. So I can forgive the first cliff-hanger and give the entire series five roses. I highly recommend you carve out enough time to read all three books at once. It’s a page-burning story.
This is the second book in this series and they must be read in order; this book is not a standalone. This book picks up where the last one left off. Only in this book Matthew’s past comes book to put a possible strain on his and Jessica’s relationship. Jake is still trying to get a second chance with Jessica as well. Jessica is trying to move on and process her past so she can have a better life and a normal relationship with Matthew. Matthew is more determined than ever to help Jessica and to have her forever. This book was just as emotional as the first. Jake was just as big as a douchbag in this book if not worse than in the first book. In this book Matthew is forced to face some of the things he did in his past. He never worried about them until he meet Jessica. Now he must hope that she understands that those things are in his past and she is his future. Will Jessica be okay with the things Matthew did in his past or will she see him different because of those things? Jake is determined to use those things from Matthew’s past to get Jessica to leave Matthew and choose him. We also meet the other members of Matthew’s practice in this book. The other members of his practice are fantastic characters. So much happens in this book and it just makes me love Matthew more. I love how Jessica is moving forward and learning to let things go that she can’t control. She is coming out of her depression and living again. I love Holly and Jessica’s friendship. I can’t get enough of the characters in this series and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Is it possible to heal from pain with love? Matthew has made it his mission to bring the woman he loves to emotional health, any way he can and it’s working. Jessica now looks forward to each day, made special by learning to trust again, to love again and to take each day as it comes. There are still bad days of gloom and her past still creeps up to haunt her, even the villains from her past, but Jessica is coping, a huge step for her. Will demons from Matthew’s past tumble her delicate house of cards or will she continue to push the past back where it belongs, even his? Get ready for sigh-worthy romance, two people, coming through the worst of the storm and surviving, thriving and growing closer every single day. Seeking Redemption by J. M. Maurer will make a romantic out of even the most cynical among us. Each scene, including Jessica’s bad day and her fight to overcome them are so well-written and feel so real, you’ll be hard-pressed to put this tale of romance down and return to reality. Once again, J. M. Maurer brings her characters to life and covers each page with a testimony to the power of true love, but is the world finished with Matthew and Jessica? Can their love survive another vicious mind out to hurt them? Will their love be tested and survive even stronger? More brightness, more happiness and more love, written as only J. M. Maurer can do! I received this copy from J. M. Maurer in exchange for my honest review.
