Once is a while, we find a book, a movie, a song that captures both our imagination and our attention. Robert Beatty weaves a story the way a spider weaves silk for a web, cunning mixed with intricate design and detail. With a beautiful blend of a magical world with a historic reality, Beatty takes his readers on an adventure right alongside the characters of his story. You feel their emotion right through the page, and celebrate their strength and triumphs as your own. I have been a fan since book one, Serafina and the Black Cloak, which I read just before visiting the Biltmore in Ashville, NC for the first time. Before the release of book 2, Serafina and the Twisted Staff, I applied for SART (Serafina Advanced Reading Team) and was so excited to be accepted to the team. But as a life-long reader, I had my apprehensions as sequels have a lot to live up to. I meet Serafina in book one, and watched her become a beautiful heroine in book two. I knew to expect greatness in book three and Mr. Beatty did not disappoint; I was captivated in chapter one and held my breath till the end. I love nothing more than to see good triumph over the adversity of evil, and not only to triumph but to come out stronger on the other side. After all, what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. Serafina and her friends, old and new have more than their share of adversity in Serafina and the Splintered Heart, and together they remind us that if we stay bold, and rely on our friends we can overcome any obstacle, we can hammer that stubborn nail, and that sometimes we have to start by putting the hammer down.

My name is Bridget, I am 14, and I love the Serafina series. I was an advanced reader for Serafina and the Twisted Staff and was lucky enough to be an advanced reader for Serafina and the Splintered Heart. Serafina and the Splintered Heart is, by far, my favorite of the series. I literally could not put the book down. I just had to keep reading to figure out what happened because I was so enthralled and anxious to see how the new problems were solved. I could feel myself running side by side with Serafina in the woods, I felt her desperation and determination, I felt Braeden's pain and longing, and I saw every detail of this book come to life. I finished this book in less than a day because it completely ensnared me and didn't let go. The plot of this book is so well thought out and nothing like I've ever read before. My favorite part about this book was the story line was completely unpredictable and I had no idea how the plot would be resolved. I've read many great books and this is definitely one of my favorites. Splintered Heart is probably the best book I've read in terms of getting the reader to feel so many emotions along with the characters. Thanks for letting me be part of the SART team these past two years. It's been an incredible experience. I can't wait for Robert Beatty's next book!

Book 3 in the series just FLEW. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see where the story was going to take me. It was great. A wonderful addition to the series. And now I eagerly anticipate the new book that the author promises in the future - and any books by this author.

Let me just say the third installment of Robert Beatty’s Serafina series is fabulous!!! This series keeps getting better and I love going on adventure with Serafina and Braeden. Serafina and the Splintered Heart grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go. It is thrilling and suspenseful, and there is a twist in the first half of this book that I found very emotionally engaging. I know I lost sleep reading this book because I could barely put it down! I definitely enjoyed the added complexity of this book. Robert Beatty does an excellent job of giving readers a new Serafina story that doesn’t feel like the same story retold. The characters are growing and learning and we as readers are growing with them. I look forward to many more adventures to come. As a side note I took my ARC with me on a recent trip to the Biltmore Estate so I could reread a few parts. It was magical. I really felt like I could have come across Serafina or Braeden as I was roaming and exploring the gardens and woods. Even touring the house I felt like if I looked down some of the back halls I might catch a glimpse of Serafina. While I know these are fictitious books, I had warm fuzzy feeling thinking of these characters roaming and living in this great house. It was a way of bringing history to life. I also came across many kids that had their copies of previous books, shirts, bags related to the Serafina Series.

I have been eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated third book in Robert Beatty's hit Serafina series, and today is the day! [HIT THE JUMP FOR MORE] Splintered Heart begins with non-stop, heart-pounding action and Beatty doesn't let his foot off of the gas. Serafina awakes in a cold, dark coffin, buried deep beneath the ground, and she has no clue how she got there. At first in a panic, Serafina thinks of her Pa and immediately begins to think about how to logically get out of this situation. Using her tattered, blood-stained dress, Serafina remembers with her Pa said about weak boards, and anxiously makes her way out of her burial ground. But why was she buried in the first place? Who put her there? Desperately trying to make her way back to Biltmore House, Serafina begins to remember her last night at Biltmore when she was attacked by a black shadow. Now it seems many days, perhaps months have passed since her kidnapping...or murder. As she attempts to reach the edges of the Estate, Serafina witnesses strange creatures who try to attack her, an apparent sorcerer who can feel her but not see her, and yet she still is able to quickly escape these dangers. Searching for her best friend Braeden, her Pa, or the Vanderbilts, Serafina realizes there is a party going on, and she wonders why she's not there. But nothing is adding up. The passage of time, the wax and wane of the moon, nothing makes sense to her. Finally she sees Braeden, who is now much different than before, and he has a secret she would never have guessed. Easily read one sitting, it is impossible to put down this book (much like Black Cloak and Twisted Staff). Beatty has crafted a new series that brings readers into a world where adventure never ends, and Serafina must call on all of her friends (old and new) to save Biltmore Estate, and their lives, from new dangers. I can't wait for the next installment in this series! As I've said in previous Serafina reviews, the Southern setting is perfect for the series, especially in this story as Beatty goes a little darker with the content. I read it so quickly, I will have to re-read it immediately!

*I received an ARC and promised to give an honest review:* In Serafina and the Black Cloak, Serafina finally learns the truth of her past and where she comes from. In The Twisted Staff, Serafina discovers her true self. Now in The Splintered Heart, Serafina and her friends will face off against challenges and foes more powerful and dangerous than any they have faced before to once again defend the Biltmore Estate and mountains of which they call home. During my reading of Serafina and the Splintered Heart, I could hardly put the book down from being so engrossed with the story. The mysteries and plot twists of this book are so that you cannot help but continue reading to find out what happens next. I believe this story is the best one yet and truly does the Serafina series justice. I highly recommend this book and the series to people of all ages who love fantasy and historical fiction novels.

Serafina and The Splintered Heart will keep you on your toes once again. Book 3 was my favorite in the Serafina series. In this book, Serafina in trying to balance both human and magical qualities but strange things begin to happen. Serafina's new powers are wilder than those before. She must figure out who she can trust and who she can not. She and her friends will face things darker than any she has faced before. Each page will leave you guessing what will happen next and you will not be disappointed. Robert Beatty has a great way of keeping you guessing and just when you think you have figured it out, BAM! another twist happens. You will not be disappointing in this or any of the Serafina books. I was sad to see it all end but I am so excited to see what Mr. Beatty has in store for us in his next book. I recommend this entire series to any age reader. It will pull you in and not let go until the very end. This is a must read!!!
