Part of a series compiling all of Augustine's works, these two volumes encompass the complete sermons of Augustine on the liturgical seasons from Christmas through Pentecost. The English reads smoothly and clearly; the sermons have helpful subdivisions in the contents as well as the text. Moreover, the content is important for understanding medieval and even later Western culture, but the methods of biblical criticism and conflation of texts limit the usefulness of these sermons for contemporary reflection. The notes at the end of each sermon are brief, sometimes explaining a point, sometimes providing a biblical reference. Highly recommended.
