Packed full of suspense, Set Me Free is a great conclusion to I Know Lucy. In this fast-paced read, friendships are tested and long-held secrets revealed. I loved Zach's close-knit group of friends and their willingness to help Lucy as she fought to free herself from her past.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Oh my word can this author get any cooler! In I Know Lucy, Melissa Pearl writes from Zach's perspective and therefor Zach is written in the first person and Lucy in the third person. I loved this method, but guess what? She changes the points of view in Set Me Free, so we now have Lucy in the first person and Zach from a third person viewpoint. What I liked even more, is that chapter one of Set Me Free is also the final chapter of I Know Lucy, but now we hear and feel what Lucy is thinking while she stands at Zach's doorstep. Melissa Pearl, is genius and I adore her for giving us this glimpse into those final precious moments. Dani introduces herself as Lucy Tate. The last puzzle pieces finally click together for Zach, who spent hours investigating Dani in the first book. Lucy explains everything about her past to Zach, the murder of her parents, running away from the killer, hiding from the law after she finds out that she is the prime suspect in their murder investigation, meeting Marlin who basically saves her life by taking her under his wing and becoming the big brother she never had. She explains to Zach how Marlin taught her to con people into giving her money and how they survived form thieving and that the two of them later joined Shorty's group where the cons were so much more calculated and professional. Lucy tells him how the murderer tortured and killed both Shorty and Marlin to get to her and that this is the reason why she ran from Zach - to protect him and his friends. Together they decide that facing her parents killer and bringing him to justice is the only way for Lucy to have a future. With the help of Zach's uncle Alex and best friend Elliot they embark on the dangerous journey of bringing the green eyed killer down. Set Me Free is a good read and I enjoyed meeting the characters and plot of this well written series. 4-Bombs Reviewed by Soreta
