PreS-Gr 2 Yes, another edition of Aesop's fables, but the seven collected here are told and illustrated with a whimsical freshness. The fables, which include ``The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf,'' ``The Fox and the Grapes,'' and ``The Hare and the Tortoise,'' have been retold using short sentences and simple language. But the cartoon-like watercolor and ink illustrations are what set the book apart. Alley has created a pastel world of perpetual motion in which chickens hatch, sheep shiver, and dogs upset marketplaces. All this and Aesop too! A worthwhile addition to picture book collections in school and public libraries. Denise A. Anton, Corn Belt Library System, Normal, Ill.
