Almost all of the siblings had scattered into the lands many seasons past, drawn by the gift, to study and to become . . . something. Sar'al, First Princess of Nu'vern, suddenly crowned "The Queen of the Seven Lands," has been directed to do a thing which she must do . . . unite all the folk of the other lands, convince them to accept her as their Queen. In all the history of Nu'vern, this had never before happened. She had been told why this was necessary and that she "should considered this as a learning experience!" And so, the tale unfolds.

About the Author

George R. Mead began to study anthropology in 1962 after being discharged (honorably) from the U. S. Army, Combat Engineers. He eventually received his degrees, a B.A., a M. A., and a Ph. D. in his chosen field. And many years later an M. S. W. in Clinical Social Work. He has worked in aerospace, taught at the college and university levels, worked in a community action agency, ran a restaurant, been unemployed, and worked for the U. S. Forest Service. He is now retired from the work-a-day world but does a certain amount of consulting, writing, and research. He lives seven miles outside of the small town of La Grande, Oregon, with his wife, and two cats.

Zakke L. Zacog, the nom de plume (pen name) of a young woman who was a senior in high school when we started, now in college, provided a number of pages and mini-essays to me as part of a dialog about writing. Her materials formed the kernel of the story: the seven lands, the names of the seventeen siblings, and what became the first chapter which set the tone and direction of all that followed. As she wishes (at the moment) to remain anonymous, so it shall be.
