About the Author

Joleene Naylor is the author of the glitter-less Amaranthine series, a world where vampires aren’t for children. As a compliment to the novel series, she has also written several short stories, including the Vampire Morsels collection, and an Amaranthine Encyclopedia. In what little time is left she watches anime and updates her blogs, all from a crooked Victorian house in Villisca, Iowa. Between her husband and her pets, she is never lonely, and should she ever disappear one might look for her on a beach in Tahiti, sipping a tropical drink and wearing a disguise. Ramblings from the Darkness at You never know what you’ll find in the shadows…..

I am a big PNR and UF fan. I have read all the big names out there. I had never heard of Ms. Naylor, but I happened to be browsing my kindle and thought "what the hey, give it a try!" I was left with my mouth hanging open at how amazing this story was. And by amazing, I mean from the stand point of a girl who likes her smexy heroes and fast paced action. The action was non-stop and fun. Jorick is to die for. She gives just enough of his motivation and background to make me want more. I can't wait for the next book. I feel Ms. Naylor deserves to be on the shelves right next to Ms. Harris, Ms. Frost and Ms. Garey

Easy to get involved in. This take of vampires doesn't sparkle, but isn't overy dramatic either. This is listed as not being for tweens, it's got some questionable content for teens as well. If you monitor what your kids watch on tv, just read it first. It's not too detailed on the "sexy" parts but it doesn't just skip them either. A nice light read with some great supplements available for the characters you want to know more about!

I am not a fast reader. But I read this in just over 24 hours. Its 620 pages. This was a book that I couldn't put down! It was so good I got all of her books for this series!

So repetitive it was boring. A few questions were unanswered.

I read all of the free short stories first and then bought this one. I was not disappointed. 600 pages and very well written. I wouldn't be surprised to find this series in the book stores. On to the next book....

The book started off great. Plenty of action and a little mystery. However, it dragged in the middle, and just ended up becoming just another vampire novel. Nothing unique to ser it apart from the countless other vampire novels out there. I won't be reading the rest of the series. Shocked to see the author wrote so many. The story is monotonous.

This book is about 250ish pgs. Fast paced, and lots of action. ***spoiler a little predictable at times, needs some editing, Kate can hear his heart beating? Thought they didn't. At times was a little bit too unrealistic, why would she go to the middle of no where to meet someone, and not make sure she had phone service?? It took her that long to figure out he was a vampire. If he couldn't tell Kate where the girl was bc Claudius could read minds, why didn't Claudius read her mind and get the truth? Jorrick and his group have known Katessah. Forever and they don't kill her while they can? If Jorrick really cared about Kate why didn't he kill her for setting up a trap for Kate , he knew what would happen, and then once he saw what happened to Kate, he doesn't get revenge? Didn't make any sense, Claudius would haven't gotten Kate if not for her betrayal.

Its a good read with a well done storyline and characters. Unfortunately I have to agree with majority of the characters in the book- whats special about Katalina, one of the two main characters? She doesn't seem to be exceptionally smart, funny, witty, pretty or physically capable. Just whiney. For that reason alone I wont continue the series.

I loved it, i felt the story line was very well thought out and suspenseful, it kept me intrigued. This author is very talented and can really pen a book. If you are looking to read a very well structured book by someone who has a firm grasp of the English language and can compose a sentence that is grammatically correct, you will undoubtly love this book. If you are just looking for an average read with a lot of vampire erotica, this is definately not for you. I highly recommend it! LB

This book isnt 600 pgs like some if the reviews are saying. Its 253 and thats with a chapter of the next book included. I really didnt like this book. The main female character katelina was constantly being attacked and hurt by vampires throughout the whole book. It was monotonous to say the least. She was the only main character that wasnt a vampire. I dont know why but this book really got on my nerves. Wont be reading the next book thats for sure. And i usually really like books like this.

The book was not bad for a freebie. I was pleasantly surprised. All though I must say the heroine was brain dead. This character was not the brightest blub in the package. A little of this character went a long way. That said the other characters were interesting as well as the story line however I just could not read past the 2nd book with heroine. She just drove me nuts.
