The line between good and evil isn't always clear…

"Tremendous! A double homicide, decadent scandals, and smooth prose—Shades of Justice is the perfect combination of mystery and suspense."  –K.J. Howe, bestselling author of Skyjack

Detective Madison Knight has risked her badge—and her life—in the pursuit of justice before, and she just might need to do so again. Two victims are found murdered and naked in the home of Steven Malone, who is the largest contributor to the Stiles PD. One victim is his wife. The other victim is a John Doe. This high-profile double homicide immediately pits Madison against her sergeant, who seems more intent on protecting the Malones' reputation and retaining a benefactor than catching a killer.

Madison will need to pull on her tenacity and courage if she's going to follow the evidence without prejudice. In the process, it becomes clear that finding justice isn't always black and white, and often the shades in between tell the fullest story—and it's not something she will forget anytime soon.

Shades of Justice is a murder mystery with twists and turns that will have readers flipping the pages until the wee hours of the morning. The ninth installment in an international bestselling series, it doesn't matter if this is the first book you're reading in the Detective Madison Knight series or not; all the books stand alone!

Buy this book now and join the investigation! Uncover clues, follow leads, and catch a killer like hundreds of thousands of readers in this series have done before you. Perfect for fans of James Patterson, Michael Connelly, and JD Robb.

Editorial Review from Readers' Favorite:

"Shades of Justice is a very complex crime novel, suspenseful and filled with surprising twists. The reader hardly knows what to expect as they follow the fearless detective on the hunt for justice and truth. The reader immediately understands, from the complex nature of the crime, that truth can have different layers and different shades. Following Madison as she carries out her investigation is interesting, and a growing feeling of apprehension permeates the entire story.

"Carolyn Arnold uses suspense and the smoothness of the prose to seduce the reader and have their undivided attention as they sail through the gripping pages. The plot opens with a powerful premise and becomes embellished with surprising details. The unpredictability of the plot is one of the key drivers that move this story forward and make it a must-read. A very exciting read for fans of crime thrillers."

I have read a few of the previous books in the series of Madison Knight and each one has been just as good as the last. With this being the 9th book in the series, the excitement and effort that has gone into the writing has not tuned down one bit. The book, and each one previously, can be read as a stand alone book too which I always find to be the sign of a really great author. Detective Knight has it all thrown into her with this book; a murder, her best friends, Cynthia, wedding and an internal investigation into the corruption at the police department. This, mixed with her own personal life, makes for a roller coaster of a read. The dialogue and the environment in which Arnold writes in, the town of Stiles, are very immersive and you can picture all the scenes throughout the book. There was plenty of action from start to finish and very fast-paced; it didn't take me long to get through the book once I started. I enjoyed the book from start to finish and cannot wait to see what is next in store for our characters. Arnold always seems to set herself a new bar when she writes the next book in the series and has not let the series get dry like some authors do with their series. Arnold has spent so much time researching her work, her characters and the detective world. Detective Knight and those that follow within the books such as her partner, Terry, are so well written and I always enjoy each character for what they are in the book. I would highly recommend 'Shades of Justice' and all the books in the Madison Knight series to anyone looking for a great crime thriller book. You will not be disappointed. More people should be picking up Arnold's books and hopefully with the reviews out there, they will.

Detective Madison Knight is back in her nine book in her series. I have only read the previous book, number eight in the series, Power Struggle, but I enjoyed it immensely so I couldn’t wait to start this book. The book opens with Madison meeting a private investigator as she believes that the police force has numerous corrupt officers and she wants to bring them to justice. We then move on to the case at hand. At the home of the Malone’s, a wealthy couple and one of the largest contributors to the police department the wife is found naked in the swimming pool, dead. She is not alone though, there is a mysterious man who is also naked and dead, with her. No-one seems to know who he is and the police are struggling to identify him. Because of the couple’s connection to the police force, Madison’s boss wants her and her partner to tread carefully and not rattle too many people, including the husband. Madison only cares about getting to the truth though and solving the case, which doesn’t go down well, especially as she seems to be coming up against obstacles that are surrounding the Malone family. What I like about the Detective Madison Knight series is how the female lead is not only a tough, go-getting officer she is also a woman with a big heart. This is something we get to see throughout as we not only see her tackling the Malone’s case, we also follow Madison as she is to be Maid of Honor at her best friends wedding, plus trying to take on the corrupt officers too, as well as her relationship with Troy which seems to be in a better place than in the last book. She also has a love for chocolate! The plot unfolds nicely as the clues come to the forefront and the identity of the murderer is slowly revealed – Like putting a jigsaw piece together. The attention to detail comes across strong and you can tell how much research went into the book to make sure every aspect of the police procedure was as it is in real life. I’m now intrigued as to where Ms. Arnold will take book ten as there are some aspects of this book that are never fully brought to a close and I can’t wait to see what happens with them.

Madison barely gets to take a breather after dealing with the mafia before she's swept right into her next case. I felt the leftover fear and anxiety from it bleeding into her every day life. She's incredibly strong; but I was happy to see deeper feelings that revealed that she's actually human -- and not a superhuman! Her friendship with Cynthia and relationship with Troy are a big insight to her outside of the title of detective. It makes her an enjoyable protagonist!Faced with a case for a high-profile family, Madison is getting more than the standard roadblocks. It's even coming from her Sergeant! Arnold's knowledge of law enforcement always gives her a leg up with Madison's cases. They are detailed to give you a feel for real detective work without overwhelming you to the point of confusion. The plot twists and suspicion of an assortment of characters helps confuse you (in a good way!). I always like to say that I've read enough books and watched enough TV shows/movies that I can figure out the ending. Arnold loves to prove me wrong!I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

Well, once again Arnold had me swinging between “do I tow the line” like Madison’s partner or “do I fight for justice no matter what the consequences” like Madison. Actually, I have this struggle almost every time I read this series. There’s a mean and ugly lieutenant they have to deal with, and he doesn’t just tow the line, he seems to suck up to almost every superior or donor. Even though in my mind I know this is all necessary whether it be a business or a public service department, it always makes me mad. I guess I’m a Madison, and I guess Carolyn Arnold creates her characters personalities so well, she has me gonna “show ‘em” before I get through a few chapters. I think this is one of Arnold’s greatest assets. You wouldn’t think that you could create as much interest or tension when most of the time two people are sitting in a car together. In her stories it seems like so much goes on with a very tight, condensed way of writing. Almost a “the less said the better” kind of thing and I am not sure how she tells a story so fully that way. I’m sorry. I’m supposed to tell you just a tad about the story aren’t I? Obviously, I got a little carried away. As you can probably tell from the first paragraph Madison Knight is a cop, sometimes called Maddie. Madison is cheeky, tough, sometimes outspoken and always on the right side of justice. Terry is her partner and a friend and yet seems to have some problems this time. Problems that move her emotionally and make her want to butt in and yet make her want to respect his privacy. This is actually a pretty apt description of Madison as a cop. This time Maddie is part of Cynthia’s wedding. Cynthia is the ME on the force. While Maddie’s glad for her friend, she’s about as happy about being involved in the wedding as I would be. This is Book 9 of a series titled “Detective Madison Knight”. This is what I would classify as crime fiction, a page turner like all of Arnold’s books and once again shows her knowledge of police procedure. No question it can be read as a stand alone. Only problem will be that you will have missed out on the other books in the series. Carolyn Arnold has many books published; all have high reviews.

Madison Knight has her hands full in this non stop action novel! Twists and turns galore in this murder mystery. She and her partner really are trying to figure out who murdered the wife of Steven Malone and a mystery man in her home. All the family seems to care about is their reputation and they are being backed up by Madison's boss---Then there is the wedding and the bride's sister walks away at the last minute-can Madison get her to return? Meanwhile there is something going on with her boyfriend AND she has to find out why her partner is not exactly himself! She is also trying to get the dirt on some cops who are very dirty--without them finding out! Will Madison be able to get everything figured out and/or fixed without losing her job? This one will keep you reading--I did it in one sitting-I could not put it down!

Carolyn Arnold does an excellent job of presenting the case, piece by piece, putting aside preconceived notions and privilege to the moneyed. I love stories with strong women and Madison is not only strong, but confident. Push and she pushes back. She always gets her man and the journey to finding him is one I love to read. She does have some trust issues, so it’s a good thing that Troy is a man with patience to spare. A naked woman is found dead in her home, with a man not her husband. There are plenty of suspects and mystery. Carolyn doesn’t give anything away, so I read on. Carolyn Arnold is one of those authors whose characters keep on giving and make me eager to visit with them every chance I get. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Shades of Justice by Carolyn Arnold.

Although I haven’t read the series, I sure plan to after reading this book. I love this type of novel. The storyline is so suspenseful, filled with twists that you could never have imagined. It’s a very intriguing crime novel. Madison and her partner are investigating a double homicide; one of the victims is the wife of a prominent contributor to the Police Department. Madison frequently faces conflict with her Sergeant when investigating the wealthy Malone family. Despite this pressure from her boss, she remains determined to deliver justice. The Author is able to encapsulate the reader and take you on this investigative journey. You won’t want to put this book down. I couldn’t. As the end neared for each chapter, I had to see what happened next. I would recommend this novel.

Many times, mystery authors give us more than one mystery to solve in one book and things get hectic. While this one started out putting a seed in our mind about a private case that Madison is investigating; the book mainly centers on the double homicide of a wealthy man’s (and a big donor to the police department) wife and a John Doe. One of my favorite things about Carolyn Arnold is that she is an amazing law enforcement procedural writer so you are thrown into the thick of the investigation with Madison and her partner Terry and it’s life like – realistic. It’s almost like you are in the back seat tagging along to the crime scene, the suspect interviews, and listening in while they throw ideas around about the case, motive, and means. There were several suspects – many of them that created suspicion for not only myself, but also Madison – and the seed planted at the beginning never left your mind as the search for the killer – and John Doe – continued throughout the story. I love a good book that has several suspects and enough suspicion that you are never really 100% sure who the killer is until it’s revealed and this did just that. Every time I thought I had the suspect pegged, a new one would put suspicion in my mind that would make me second guess my initial guess. I am a huge fan of Carolyn Arnold’s writing and love every book I have ever read by her. If you like true crime; you will thoroughly enjoy her books.

I have read a couple of the previous Madison Knight series but you do not have to have read a  book to enjoy Shades of Justice. Each book is a great standalone, as well as part of an ongoing series. Madison is always going to do the right thing. I thought, until I finished this book, that she saw everything in black and white. I truly believe she learned a new lesson in Shades of Justice as everything is not black and white. Madison does not want to play nice with her boss. I really can get into this in a female character. She feels her superior is being very nice to the one person who should be suspect number one in this murder - the one victim's husband. Any murder mystery I have read has the spouse as the number one suspect. And, truthfully, I was pretty certain he may have done it also. You will have to see if you can figure out who the murderer is before Madison does. I couldn't do it. Pick up a copy of Shades of Justice to read a great, page turning mystery. I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

It’s been a while since I reconnoitred with Detective Madison Knight but I found Shades of Justice to be a real page-turner which works just as well as a stand-alone detective story as it does as part of the series. I love the procedural information that Arnold injects into her writing which makes you feel as if you are part of the investigative team. This time, Madison and her partner Terry are trying to unravel the double murder of a furniture mogul’s wife and struggling to get the truth out of the bereaved family. Add to that Madison’s quest to unmask corrupt police officers in her department and you have a story worth of Line of Duty. Will her quest for the truth put her life in danger yet again? And why is Sergeant Winston doing everything he can to hamper Madison’s investigation? Is the corruption a little too close to home? The relationship between Madison and Terry is well-drawn and throws up the odd surprise when Terry starts to act out of character. Then there’s hunky Troy, Madison’s current love interest who is also acting rather oddly and clearly has something to hide. Shades of Justice races to a satisfying finish and will leave you looking forward to the next instalment. Highly recommended. I was gifted a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Shades of Justice by Carolyn Arnold is the 9th book in her terrific Detective Madison Knight series. I have been a fan of this series since the beginning, and as always, Carolyn Arnold never fails to give us an intense exciting murder mystery, not to mention her expertise in police procedurals. I have said this a number of times; when it comes to police investigations & procedurals no one does it better than Arnold. Madison Knight, our heroine, is a tough detective, who will let nothing stand in her way to find the guilty. In Shades of Justice, Madison and her partner Terry are called to the scene of a double homicide at the house of the wealthy Malone family, who are also big supporters in Stiles and to the police department. Lorene Malone, the family matriarch, is found murdered with a ‘John Doe’ at poolside. When Madison tries to get information from family, she finds herself being stymied by her Sargent, who is determined to not ruffle feathers for the Malones. Despite the Sargent’s constant interference, Madison works with her friends and team (Terry, Cynthia, Troy, etc), to work together to find the clues about the murder, which will have many twists and turns along the way. There a quite a few suspects, which makes it very difficult to find clues, but never underestimate our intense and stubborn Madison Knight. With being deeply immersed into solving this mystery, Madison is also involved in helping her friend Cynthia (medical examiner) prepare for her wedding, which is only a few days away. I do enjoy Madison and Cynthia’s friendship, and the mishaps along the way that lightened things up. I love that Madison was finally finding a true love in Troy, and hope this does become what our heroines needs..a perfect man in her life. There is also another story line that seems to be leading more into future books; corrupt police officers and the threat that this will become a dangerous mission in her life. I will note two things I have mentioned before; Madison’s partner, Terry still annoys me a lot, as I do not like him; and the sargent was god awful. With Madison so good at her job, I prefer that she had good people working with her. But that is my sole opinion. Rather than give spoilers, Shades of Justice was a great story, with lots of action, precise investigations, many suspects, blackmail, murder, revenge and a thrilling edge of your seat ride. I could not put the book down; especially with new developments changing constantly. This story was very exciting and well written. If you enjoy mysteries, murder cops, police procedurals and a tough as nails cop, then you need to be reading this series.

Detective Madison Knight and her partner, Detective Terry Grant are back for another action packed adventure. This time, though, Madison is pushing the limits which may cost her the job ... and her life. A man and a woman are found naked and dead at the bottom of a swimming pool .. both of them shot in the head. The man is unidentified for the moment, but the woman was the wife of Steven Malone, a huge contributor to the local police department. Madison has been at odds with her Sergeant, who tells her to back off questioning and investigating this prominent man and his family. But Madison generally has a one track mind and what she wants more than anything is to nail the killer with or without her supervisor's permission. Finding justice isn't all black and white .. it's the gray areas that will lead her .. somewhere. This has been such a terrific series. Madison and Trent are like most siblings .. the tease, they argue, they disagree ... but always do they have each other's backs. Although 9th in the series, this one can easily be read as a stand alone. There's a little bit of everything here ... murder, not once, but twice .... a family keeping secrets... twists and turns that bend the mind ... lots of action .... even a little bit of romance thrown in. It's an all-around enjoyable read. Many thanks to the author and Hibbert & Stiles Publishing for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Reviewed by Divine Zape for Readers' Favorite Shades of Justice is the ninth book in the Detective Madison Knight series by Carolyn Arnold, a beautiful meld of crime thriller and detective work with a sophisticated, elaborately developed protagonist. When two murder victims are found naked in Steven Malone’s home, Detective Madison Knight knows she is in for a very complicated case. Malone is one of the biggest contributors to Stiles PD. One of the victims is his wife and the other one is a John Doe. The reader hardly knows what to expect as they follow the fearless detective on the hunt for justice and truth. The reader immediately understands, from the complex nature of the crime, that truth can have different layers and different shades.
