The Rule Breaker...

Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless…and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he's never been able to abide by the rules for long.

The Law Maker...

Veritas’ normal role is police, judge, and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait...well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hotspots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s carefully cultivated, devil-may-care roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers Veritas has shocking secrets of her own. As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences.

OK. Here I am waving the white flag. I take back what I said at the end of the last Vlad book when talking about how Ian got the short end of the stick. I went into this novel with very little expectation of anything. My resolve to read this, in the first place, was because I liked Ian enough as a character in all of Jeaniene Frost's other books that I'd be open to "taking one for the team" as they say. Color me surprised when I actually started to *gasp* like their story. Ian was dirty minded and ladened in innuendo humor as ever! He's a very entertaining character to be around and it made the dull moments in this story colorful, to say the least. I liked how he initially fought his interest in Veritas. It made for quite a few hilarious situations! Having read most of the novels in the Night Huntress World universe I had a somewhat strong dislike of Veritas. It took me even longer than Ian to warm up to her. Getting to know her background, everything she's gone through and what she still does under the guise of being a Guardian I understand her side of things a lot better now. I love her dedication to Ian in the end and how selfless she was in her mission to protect him. The ending had me fuming for a solid hour (I listened to the audio book). I swore if the author had coped to the cliché [spoiler redacted] plot point I would have given up on this series then and there. I was SO glad for what that epilogue revealed (which was a first for me). Now it's a waiting game for the next novel in this series to get released. The Audio Book: The overall narration was good. There were times when certain characters sounded too much alike so I did get lost in conversation from time to time. What took me off guard and had me grinding my teeth was Bone's voice. I initially despised the accent Tavia Gilbert chose for him in the Night Huntress Series. I eventually learned to relate her accent for him with him as a character. This book was narrated by the same person who narrated the Night Huntress Series and yet she changed his accent! Would I have liked this accent to have been in the original series? You bet I would have. But it's not. So why did it get changed!? So even though this was Ian's book, all I could think about was how wrong Bone's accent was (even though he didn't play a big part in the story).

What a spectacular beginning to a new series! Vlad was always been my fave in this series (just something yummy about him) but Ian has now moved up the charts. Our funny and fun loving vamp comes takes front and center stage in Shades of Wicked. Not only do we get to revel in his sordid sense of humor and bask in his witty charm- but we also get to see his softer side the one he hides so well - and honestly, I really can't fault him for hiding behind his facade. Veritas takes the role as our heroine in this new series - I have mixed feelings towards her, she was not one of my favorite people but she did a pretty good job of swaying my opinion in this episode. She is seeking to put an end to a certain demon and she needs bait and it seems she has found it in Ian. These two together are a blend of nonstop action and a comedy of errors topped with a delightful chemistry that leaves no question of their emotional engagement This is a fun faced paced adventure that will entertain from the opening scene to the semi-cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for more “No, some people also want to kill me,” he said at once. “Some want me to turn them into a vampire, some want my money, some want me for my rare artifacts, some for my fighting skills, and one wants to dangle me out as bait for a demon she’s trying to kill. See? No one is with me simply to be with me.” - Ian "Ever been lost? The worst part was knowing no one cared enough to save you. That’s what you remember forever. Not the physical pain or the never-ending fear, but the despair of being utterly alone and knowing you’ll die that way . .." - Ian Broke my heart

Best paranormal romance I have read all year. And it’s just the first in the series. A must read for fans of the genre. Only gripe is having to wait until summer for the next installment.

He is every shade of Wicked – an unrepentant and shameless master vampire, but Ian may have just met his match in this explosive, heart pounding novel. Shades of Wicked is the first in the new Night Rebel series which takes place in the Night Huntress Universe and like all the others fabulous books in this universe, the author paints vivid imagery in her well-developed vampire world. Ian has fascinated readers from the very first book he appeared in as he shamelessly dared readers to overlook him and now, finally he gets all of their attention in his own series. Ian’s never met a rule he liked and he’s made a few too many enemies including the demon Dagon who has laid claim to his soul. As a Law Guardian, Veitas is police, judge and jury to all reprobates like Ian, but she has an axe to grind with Dagon as well so using Ian as bait sounds like a great idea to her. But all’s fair in love and war so these two bold, energetic characters give readers on heck of a thrilling and spirited show as they send sparks flying in every direction. There is so much sizzling chemistry between Ian and Veritas, readers can feel the current through every turn of the page and these characters demand that readers turn each and every one of them. Emotional turbulence adds depth and feeling to the story as the characters look for the perfect place to set their trap all while fighting their attraction. There are no dull moments in this fast paced story that keeps readers on tender hooks with lots of vibrant energy, thrilling suspense, spirited battles and surprising twists and with intriguing secrets and a suspenseful climax that ensures readers are going to come back for more of this urban fantasy romance series.
