About the Author

Kait Ballenger is a full-time paranormal romance author, wife, professional belly dancer and graduate student living in Central Florida. Twilight Hunter is the first full-length novel in her Execution Underground paranormal romance series, following "Shadow Hunter," a prequel novella. With a B.A. in English and a minor in creative writing from Stetson University, Kait is currently a student in Spalding University's M.F.A writing program, where she's studying writing for young adults and screenwriting. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue her goal of becoming a creative-writing professor. When Kait's not preoccupied with paranormal creepy-crawlies, she can be found slaving over endless amounts of schoolwork or with her nose buried in a book. She lives happily with her husband, their doggie-daughter, Sookie, and two mischievous cats, Elliot and Olivia-all three of whom are named after fictional characters. Kait believes anything is possible with hard work and dedication. One day, she intends to be a bestselling author and have people name their pets after her characters, too.

~Reviewed by ANGELA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog I was pleasantly surprised of how good this novella turned out to be. Shadow Hunter is the prequel for Execution Underground but not one time that this book felt like it was a prequel. The author’s execution of a good world building and character build up was awesome. Ms. Ballenger delivered a good blend of action, suspense and an ending that will have you panting for more. This author certainly captured my attention and believe me, I will be keeping an eye out for more of her work. Damon Brock and Tiffany Solow had several things in common. First is the loss of a loved one. Tiffany’s brother, also Brock’s best friend was killed by a vampire. Unfortunately, Mark’s death is not something neither of them can forget. They also have the same drive to seek out revenge. Brock continues to work for Execution Underground waiting for the opportunity to kill his friend’s murderer. And Tiffany’s goals are the same but has become an undercover vampire hunter. Fate has a funny way of bringing them together. As the infected vampires and deaths are on the rise, they will end up working side by side toward the same goal but ultimately to revenge Mark’s death. I really like Damon and Tiffany. Damon is a classic hero who is strong physically and mentally, very sexy and respects a woman who is just as strong. And Tiffany is equally strong. I mean this girl can kick ass and has balls bigger than most man I know. Their relationship was cute and heartfelt throughout the book until the story took a turn at the end. I honestly didn’t expect a tearful and jaw dropping end. By the way this book ended, gave me the impression that this series will be of UF genre. But looking at Twilight Hunter’s blurb, looks like Execution Underground is PNR. I have not had much interaction with the author and I have not had any discussions with anyone about this book, so, I’m not really sure, but damn it, I am hoping to get more of Damon and Tiffany. I know that this is not…CANNOT be the end of their story. If the rest of the books from Ms. Ballenger are as good as this prequel, She will most definitely be added to my favorite authors list. *ARC provided by publisher

I thoroughly enjoyed Shadow Hunter by Kait Ballenger! She is a new author for me and I can guarantee that I will be reading more books by her! In fact, Twilight Hunter, the 1st full book in her Execution Underground series, is already on my nightstand waiting for me. Damon Brock is a vampire hunter with the EU (Execution Underground). He is still reeling from the death of his good friend, Mark, during a recent raid. Damon has made a promise to himself to take down the vamp who was responsible for his friend's death. While pursuing that goal, Damon meets Tiffany in a private room in Club Fantasy and neither of their lives will ever be the same. This novella begins the story of Damon and Tiffany and ends with a HUGE OMG, OMG, OMG cliffhanger that will be resolved later in a book devoted to both of them. I LOVED Damon and can hardly wait for their story to be told! Bottomline: AN AWESOME novella. 5 stars!!!!!!

I think Kait Ballenger launches her Execution Underground paranormal series to an amazing start with the prequel Shadow Hunter. Damon Brock is a vampire hunter who seeks to avenge the death of his friend and partner. He quickly finds out he’s not the only one with this goal in mind. Tiffany Solow is hell bent on working alone to find the vampire who murdered her older brother. She had no idea that this personal mission would unite her with the one person who she blames for her loss. Shadow Hunter is a fast-paced read filled with thrilling and vivid action scenes. The world building has great potential for some exciting, dark, and dangerous storylines in this supernatural underworld. I also found the gory twist with the vampires quite interesting! Damon and Tiffany were well-matched, strong characters. I liked the whole letter writing aspect to the story. I thought the letters quickly helped forge their connection, flame the tension, and help fan the romance in a short time. What an exhilarating gateway to this series! Once you read Shadow Hunter, you will definitely want to grab book 1, Twilight Hunter, right away!  *I was gifted a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

Finally we get to see why Damon is the way he is! He's had a rough time trying to get Rochester cleaned up of supernatural creatures. The bad thing about this novella is that it's just a teaser for his book which doesn't come out for awhile. It was cool seeing him pulling the team together, even if it was quickly done. I love this series and can't wait for the next book. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Shadow Hunter by Kait Ballenger takes us back to the very beginning of Damon’s story and his role in The Execution Underground. I was dying to hear more about Damon and learn his backstory. Well, Shadow Hunter gave all of it and it was amazing. Emotional, tense, tender….just amazing. Damon Brock is settled in Rochester, NY, and is ready to get down to business and go after one of the biggest vampires in the city. Never in a million years did he expect to run into a rogue vampire hunter after the same mission he was….and it was a woman. Tiffany Solow. Women weren’t allowed to be a part of The EU and even if Tiffany was one hell of a hunter, she was still crossing all sorts of lines she shouldn’t be crossing. Now, after getting her out of a sticky situation, and realizing the vampires they are hunting have a few new traits that are making them an even bigger force to be reckoned with, he starts to have a nagging suspicion that he knows Tiffany. He fears the reason he may know her is because she’s the girl he had been paired with as pen-pals when he started training with The EU. The problems are numerous if that was the case. One, because he had fallen in love with that girl through her letters, and two, because she was the sister of his best friend. A best friend whose death he was responsible for. Now, with mounting attractions, big vampire trouble, and trying to keep and entire city safe, tensions are running high between Damon and Tiffany. Are they doomed before they even had a start? Oh man, this was a great story. I was so intrigued by Damon when I read Immortal Hunter and was dying to know what had happened in his past to cause him the pain that was lying just under the surface. Well, we got a lot of answers in Shadow Hunter and it was fantastic. I’m going to try not to give any spoilers away but I will say that the connection Tiffany and Damon shared from their letter writing days was beautiful and really helped fuel their physical attraction when they come face to face. Tiffany is one hell of a tough cookie and I really enjoyed her resolve and tenacity. Damon is amazing as well. A skilled fighter with a heart is a combo that’s hard to beat. And throw in the whole mystery of what was going on with this new breed of vampires and this story was non-stop action from the very first chapter. This is absolutely a series I will continue to look forward to and thank you, Kait, for giving us Damon’s start! I loved it!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle: *Read in the After Dark Anthology Shadow Hunter was an action packed, dark, dangerous and sexy thrill ride, and as a prequel to a new and thrilling series, it captivates and captures.  Our hero, Damon, is a vampire hunter seeking vengeance. While on his mission, his path intersects with his deceased partner's younger sister and sparks fly. Working together to find the murder and get justice, they are embroiled in a strange new plot being unleashed by the vamps.  Intriguing and entertaining, Kait hooked me with this prequel and I can't wait to read more in the EXECUTION UNDERGROUND series. I would definitely recommend this novella. Kait's voice is fresh and exciting, and while the ideas aren't utterly unique, they're different enough to grab you and keep you interested and given the fascinating world building and depth of character Kait has introduced in Shadow Hunter, I can see SO many ways that this series could go and I can't wait to take the journey! :)

Action packed, gruesome and sexually charged, Shadow Hunter is the dark urban fantasy prequel in the Execution Underground series. Damon Brock, vampire hunter, is out to seek vengeance on the vampire that killed his partner. When his partner's sister is on the same mission, their worlds collide and the sexual chemistry between them can't be denied. Can they take down the murderer and discover the strange mutation to newly turned vamps before more die? We are told often and repetitively that Tiffany is Damon's deceased partner's sister and that Damon can't reveal his identity. This didn't really work for me. I also have reservations with the intalust between Tiffany and Damon. Both seemed to impede my reading flow. The story was intriguing and entertaining. Ballenger writes extremely vividly, giving us a strong picture of the world she created. Packing such a detailed story into a novella length book, made me wish for more content. Don't get me wrong, I would definitely be interested in reading more of the Execution Underground world but I do believe reading book 1 before the prequel 0.5 would of helped with my investment in the storyline.

They must find a way to work together, while resisting the unsettling chemistry that ignites between them. While Shadow Hunter starts slowly, Kait Ballenger does an excellent job of building the foundation of this series. One that task is completed, the story is free to take flight, and I found myself quickly caught up in the developing storyline. The prequel to her existing Execution Underground series, this is not a stand alone story, so expect to finish it wanting more! My OFFICIAL REVIEW written for Carly's Book Reviews

Shadow Hunter (Execution Underground 0.5) by Kait Ballenger Vampire hunter Damon Brock works for the Execution Underground in Rochester, New York.  While chasing down the vampire that killed his partner, Mark Solow, he stumbles upon the girl who has haunted his dreams, Tiffany Solow, Mark’s sister. Damon is a great character.  He blames himself for his partner’s death even though it is not his fault.  He is tormented and protective.  I could see him becoming a good leader in the future. Tiffany is brave.  Even though she doesn’t have formal training, she hunts the creatures that killed her family.  She is grief-stricken about Mark’s death and Damon’s involvement.  I like that she is open-minded and gives Damon another chance. The story is well-written and interesting.  It has multiple unexpected twists that kept me attentive.   The ending killed me.  It definitely made me want to read the rest of the series.  Shadow Hunter seems like is an excellent foundation for the rest of the series.  After reading this book, I want to check out the rest of the series.
