Brady...?

What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.?Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece.

I'd be lost if it weren't for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who's slowly finding her way into my cynical heart.

?I keep reminding myself that I can't fall for someone when we don't have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.

?Katherine...?

When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel--six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos--I'm not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me.?

What I don't count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won't mean anything, that I won't fall in love.

?I shouldn't make promises I can't keep.?

"Shameless" (Texas Nights Book 1) by Lex Martin is a great read. I enjoyed Brady and Katherine's story. This is a great start to this series, packed with romance, passion, family, overcoming tragedy, interesting characters, humor, new beginnings, and more. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series in "Reckless". Highly recommend to all fans of romance, family, and series.

So freaking good! This was my first book by this author (in anticipation for the ARC I received of Reckless), and it definitely won’t be my last. I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars. I listened to the audiobook, and really liked the narrators overall. Especially the female narrator’s interpretation of Brady’s voice. That Boston accent she did for him was wicked awesome! I absolutely adored both Katherine and Brady, along with a lot of the other minor characters. And Izzy was super cute! So this book is kind of emotionally heavy, which you can probably tell from the summary. I didn’t cry while reading, but my heart kind of broke at spots. Brady and his family, and even Katherine, are going through a tough time after losing loved ones, along with some other setbacks life throws their way. And if anyone’s life is completely turned upside down, it’s Brady. I feel bad for the poor guy, and everything that’s dumped on his plate. But everything works out in the end; I’m so glad he gets a happy ending! I loved how the connection between these two characters unfolded, how Brady was with his niece, and the raw emotions we got a glimpse of here and there. And the epilogue was so good. I can’t wait to see a little more from these characters in Reckless…which I need to devour ASAP! I highly recommend checking out this book if you’re a romance lover. I can’t wait to go back and read the other books this author has written when I have a little free time.

How did I miss this book? I am so angry with myself for not reading it sooner! What an amazing read! What can I say that will do this book justice? I laughed at the great banter and smart remarks! I cried right along with the characters! I swooned and fell in love with Brady right along with Katherine! What a powerful and beautiful love story! Katherine is an amazing heroine. She is beautiful, strong, extremely hardworking, very smart, she graduated with honors from high school and college. She is loving and kind, but boy does she have a temper and isn’t afraid to show it! She also grew up very poor. She and her sister Victoria are daughters of migrant workers, so they had a hard life growing up. That certainly didn’t keep Katherine down then or now. She is now taking care of her two best friends’ daughter after they were killed in a flash flood during a rain storm. She feels responsible for their deaths. She is waiting for Cal’s brother from Boston to come down to bury his brother and his wife along with all the legal mess that must be dealt with. How is Katherine going to part with Isabelle? She loves that little girl. She also loves the lavender farm that she has called home for the last 6 months, she doesn’t want to go home to Corpus or back to Austin. She was trying to get a handle on her life before the accident, now she is in limbo. Brady is now in the Texas Hill Country that is so different from Boston. He is here to bury his brother and to go over legal matters. He had to leave his job as a tattoo artist. He was going to quit anyway for a while because he was taking over his fathers landscaping business after he suffered a heart attack. The business is in trouble and his parents may lose everything. He couldn’t keep up that pace of working two jobs. Brady is exhausted. He is also feeling guilty because he was so angry at his brother for not coming back home to help with the family business. He was too busy playing house in Texas. He feels guilty because the night his brother died, he didn’t answer his phone call and he didn’t call him back. Then his phone rang in the middle of the night and his mother gave him the news that his brother and his new wife were dead. He had no idea what he was walking into. Brady is amazed not only with Katherines beauty but what a hard worker she is. She takes care of the chores on the farm, takes care of the house and baby. She goes nonstop. Katherine thought Brady was a biker that was lost when he first pulled up to the farm. She was not too nice to him and gave him a bit of an attitude, which Brady found very attractive. They both knew they could not give in to the attraction and electric current that surrounded them. There was just too much at stake. Brady was going to get things settled and then return to Boston. They couldn’t get involved, or could they? This book took an emotional toll on me. I cried and felt every emotion they felt. I laughed at their banter and the crazy animals on the farm. And oh, the love scenes! HOT!!! I was frustrated with how they wouldn’t acknowledge their feelings, but I totally understood why they didn’t. I don’t want to give away too much of the story, it is just too good to share! I am jealous that I can’t read it again for the first time and experience all the feels, and what great feels they are. This was told in dual POV, so I was actively involved. I flew through this book. It is one of those that you just don’t want to put down. A must read!

There are certain things I’ve come to know and appreciate in life: books keep me happy, coffee keeps me upright, and Lex Martin writes one helluva phenomenal book. I have loved each and every one of her books so fiercely. She continues to be not only one of my favorite authors, but an author I can count on for an exceptionally good and fulfilling read. She never fails to deliver a story that weaves together the perfect amount of undeniable heat and connection, the most thoughtfully crafted and all-feeling level of emotion, and an effervescent vibrancy that is tangible through ever extraordinary word she writes. It’s pretty suffice to say that I love her books, her characters and stories, and her writing, hard. Reading a new book from her is something I so look forward to because I know without a doubt that she will literally give me it all between the pages of her books. She’ll give me the feels I crave, the romance that makes me melt, the vibrancy and life that is beyond mesmerizing to experience, and everything else in between that makes me love what I’m reading even more. Shameless was a book that was equal parts beautiful and emotional and meaningful, while simultaneously making me blush and melt and fall so wonderfully hard for everything that Brady and Katherine were sharing. This book was romantic, it was fun, it was full of feels, and it was real. So genuinely real, with real, easy to love and understand characters that were spectacular on every page. The distinctive authenticity and life and spark that Lex Martin created within Shameless is something I know I won’t soon forget. (It’s something I’m missing already, now that I’ve finished the book.) This book is about what happens when life throws you one seriously emotional curve ball you never saw coming. It follows two phenomenal characters as they try to figure out what in the world they’re going to do after that curve ball is thrown, and how they’re going to handle everything that curveball leaves in its wake. This book is about how that curveball throws Brady and Katherine onto a path they never expected to be on, yet how that path just might be exactly what they never knew they needed in this new normal they find themselves in. Shameless is an immensely enrapturing story of loss and meaningful emotion, and how new life and love and hope might just be able to grow from that loss, if these characters just allow themselves the chance to have it. Shameless gave me two wonderfully distinctive characters trying to make the best of a situation neither one of them expected to be in, and it showed what happened between them as they tried to figure out exactly what they needed and wanted, for themselves and from each other. I loved everything about this book. I loved Katherine and Brady. I loved me some Isabella. I loved their journey and story together, and I loved every phenomenal aspect Lex Martin encapsulated into this book. Shameless is one of those perfect reads that reminds you why you love reading so much in the first place, and I truly can’t recommend it to you enough. Read this book. Embrace its feels. Fall hopelessly in love with Katherine and Brady. Invest yourself in them, and what they so authentically share. Give yourself over to Shameless and everything it has. It’s worth it. They’re worth it. And everything you get you get within the pages of this book is worth it.

4.5 Shameless Stars!! “I want to tell him that I changed my mind about our arrangement. I want to tell him I want more. That I want us to be together. That I want him to stay. But, I don’t because I promised. No expectations. No demands. And I’ll keep that promise. Even if it ends up breaking my heart.” I don’t know about you guys, but I have been dying, I mean dying for a new book from Lex Martin. I have been a fan of hers ever since I read Dearest Clementine. And with each book of hers that I read, the more I fall in love with her writing. And let me tell you, Shameless does not disappoint. Shameless starts off with one heck of bang. Your heart is literally broken within just the first few chapters. Brady’s whole entire world gets turned upside down with the death of his brother and sister-in-law. Not only will Brady be faced with many personal regrets, but he will suddenly find himself in charge of his brother’s one year old daughter. And Brady knows absolutely nothing about kids. Even so, when he meets Isabella for the first time, he knows that he will do anything to protect this little girl. Luckily, he has Katherine on his side. You see, Katherine was his sister-in-law’s best friend and if it wasn’t for Katherine, he would be lost. And before Brady even realizes it, Katherine is burrowing her way into his heart. Even though his feelings for Katherine are strong, he fights his feelings. He’s afraid to start something when his future is so uncertain…. Shameless was everything I could have wanted in a Lex Martin read. Told from dual points of view, be ready to be taken on an roller-coaster ride of emotions. This story is well-written. It’s heart-breaking. You are sucked into the story from the very first page. Your emotions will be all over the place as you go through this journey with Katherine and Brady. This book will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will frustrate you and make you want to scream! It will pull at your heart. It will have you believing in hope and rooting for love. Like I said, your emotions will be all of the place. I absolutely loved the characters. They were very easy to relate to and connect with. When you see Katherine and Brady together, you know that you are going to be in for a real treat. The chemistry between these two is undeniable. It’s impossible to not root for these two. Lex Martin has done an amazing job with Shameless. This story has just the right amount of angst, drama, heartache and romance. I was taken on one incredible journey and I loved every second of it. I can’t wait to see where Lex Martin will take my heart next!
