The premise of this book is a basic one: A man named Tom buys a stone that has magical shape shifting powers that allow him to take on any outer physical form he wants. He becomes a ¿she-male¿ half female and half male to please his girlfriend. Because of his transformation Tom is able to gain insight (via magic from his stone) in the world of women. I thought it was a bit weird that Tom did not fully transform into a female and the authors never really delve into the obvious struggles and issues Tom would have to face from society as a ¿she-male¿. It read like a novel that was written solely as erotica and as such it is not bad but don¿t read it if you are expecting in depth insight into the world of a she-male.

Overall I would only recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick erotic story. The Story itself didn¿t really make much sense to me because I don¿t really know any man who would want to become a she-male to please his girlfriend and I don¿t know any women who would want their boyfriends/husbands to do that for them either! Maybe I am a prude but I didn¿t really find it to be exciting or erotic. The story is rather shallow and there is not an in depth look at the characters and why they feels what they do.

I would classify Shapeshifter by Thomas Newgen & Barbara Deloto as SciFi erotica. The concept is simple enough: a man (Tom) walks into a gem shop of some sort and buys a stone that draws him to it and Tom feels some sort of energy from this stone. The shopkeeper tells Tom about the history of the stone as those used by shaman¿s and medicine men to ¿shape shift¿. The stone gives Tom the power to change his outer appearance any way he wants to and he does so to please his girl friend. I didn¿t really think there was much substance to the story line or much character development at all but if you are looking for an erotic book it¿s not so bad ¿.
