I read this book for a book group. I was a little worried about reading this book without reading the first three books in the series. I discovered that I didn't feel that I was missing anything while reading this fabulous book! This is a hard to put down suspenseful murder mystery. You experience the emotions of each character right along with them as you read the story. The main characters, Lucy Kincaid and Max Revere are great. The way they didn't trust each other in the beginning. Then the mutual respect they had for each other at the end. They have a way of figuring out a mystery. I would love to see another story with them working together again. I look forward to reading all of Allison's books after reading Shattered!

This was an outstanding story. Brennen skillfully brought all of the Lucy Kincaid characters together with Max Revere. I had to force myself to go to bed. It was a riveting novel.

This book is the 4th book in the Maxine Rivera series. Max, a reporter, has a reputation for solving cold murder cases. Because of this, she’s called upon by an ex, John, whose wife is accused of killing their son. He suspects his son is another victim in a string of unsolved killings, so he wants her to link the similarity of this case to other dead cases in order to prove his wife’s innocence. Max knows in order to effectively investigate the case, she needs to work alongside FBI agent Lucy, (from the Lucy Kincaid series) without bumping heads. They are both used to calling the shots. This book is full of suspense and is good right down to the last drop! I recommend it with high commendations! Disclosure: I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this title from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks for the opportunity!!! ☺️

The kidnapping and murder of Justin Stanton has been a question hanging over the Lucy Kincaid series from the beginning. What happened to Lucy’s nephew and best friend when they were seven defined who Lucy was as a person and the path she chose to take forward. It is also one of those nagging questions that bothers readers like me. Every time it came up I would wonder if Lucy were going to take the time to figure it out, especially now that she’s an FBI agent. When Max Revere came on the scene, I wondered, would Max take it on; this was a case right up her alley. In Shattered, the latest Max Revere / Lucy Kincaid novel, Allison Brennan takes on Justin’s murder (YAY!) and brings the two series together. I have been waiting for this book since the beginning and I was not disappointed. Max and Lucy are an amazing team; not surprisingly. Brennan seamlessly blends the two series for one kick-ass novel. I really liked these two women together. I sincerely hope this isn’t a one-off and we see them develop the relationship they’ve started as both series move forward. There is clearly room for both of these amazing women in future novels. Especially since it appears that Max is taking on the biggest question in her life: what happened to her mother? I just know that Lucy and Sean can help with that. Max is definitely going to need her friends as that story plays out. At the same time, the implications for the Lucy series going forward are going to be interesting. I look forward to seeing how Brennan ties the threads of this book back to Lucy’s career as an FBI agent. There are certainly trials ahead and I look forward to going along for the ride. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

This book took me out of my usual genre reading and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Max Revere is an investigative reporter who has been asked, no begged, to look into the possibility of a serial killer of young boys and how it may relate to the killing of his son. She usually only investigates cold cases but promises to take a look. This brings in Lucy Kincaid who was related to one of the earlier victims. Can they work together? Can they trust each other enough to not explode and bring it all down? There is a lot of backstory which I found helpful but made the early part of the story lag but even though there was so much I slogged through it and tried to keep it all straight. Once the backstory was over and the rest took over, the book flew and was GREAT. For this reason, I will be on the lookout for the next book in the series (either Max or Lucy). **Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**
