About the Author

Brenda Kennedy, an award winning and Amazon bestselling author, is a true believer of romance. Her stories are based on the relationships that define our lives - compassionate, emotionally gripping, and uplifting novels with true to life characters, that stay with her readers long after the last page is turned. Her varied, not always pleasant background has given her the personal experience to take her readers on an emotional, sometimes heart wrenching, journey through her stories. Brenda has been a struggling single mom, a survivor of domestic abuse, waitress, corrections officer, hostage negotiator and a corrections nurse. She is also a wife, mom, and grandmother. Even though her life was not always rainbows and butterflies, she is a survivor and believes her struggles have made her the person she is today. Brenda is the author of the award winning book, Forever Country (The Rose Farm Trilogy Book 1). She has been dubbed "The Queen of Cliffhangers" by her adoring readers because books one and two always have a cliffhanger ending. In Brenda's own words, "I write series that end in cliffhangers, because I love them. I always give away the first book in each series so you have nothing to lose by reading it." She was born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio and moved to SW Florida in 2006 with her husband Rex. They have a combined family, and she often jokes about not remembering what child belongs to who.

Interesting story, but its a CLIFF HANGER! My point of view (POV) only in that of reading books that end without the cliff hanger. I will read the books and buy the next one in the series to read about the next characters. In my POV, I  am just not intoreading books that grab you, then leave you hanging so you feel you must buy the next book to find out what happens to the characters. When you purchase the book, only to find out its a let-down.  Thanks, but no thanks.

I cried, sobbed when Max dies. As I read on and on I was wondering where the mystery of Molly would be resolved? As our Emma admits she loves Alec and he admits he loves her, I noted that The end of the book was a page away. Emma is them he is dating.widowed and in Alec's story they say that Molly was gone, too. Nobody in Alec's family wonders anything about Molly. They say nothing when Alec brings Emma to the hospital where the family is gathered to await the birth of his sister's first child. I am angry that the author literally waited until the LAST sentance of the book as Alec and Emma stumble into bed to tell us that Molly is alive and is layong half naked in his bed! I will never read another story by this author. I feel as though she betrayed me. She conned me intocaring about Brook, Brice, Raelyn and James to insure that I buy the next book. Do not invest your time or heard into a book that simply leavea you with no ending.

You never know what life has in store. Love every minute you have, it come crashing in on you without any warning! This book was hard to put down and hard to read at times. I had to have tissue sitting next to me when I would hit a spot that was sensitive. The ending of the book, WOW!!! I can't wait to read the next one! Shattered Dreams is one heck of a book that everyone should read! *Received for an honest review*

I just finished reading Shattered Dreams. It is the first book in The Freedom Trilogy written by Brenda Kennedy. Emma is living her dream life. She is married to the man she loves with all her heart and soul, and they just gave birth to their first child. Then, he’s deployed early and killed overseas. She is devastated over his loss, but she must learn to pick up the pieces for her son. Can she move on and find love again or will her heart be forever shattered? I loved this book. I must say that at the beginning I had to push myself to continue reading. That isn’t because of bad reasons though. It was a great start. The story was so beautiful. That’s why I didn’t want to continue reading. I knew from the title and description that bad things were headed. I didn’t want to reach that part. I’m glad I did and kept reading. This is a very detailed and very beautiful story. I fell in love with all of the characters, especially Emma and James. There wasn’t anything I disliked about this book. It was well written. I almost didn’t want to put it down. Oh how life interferes with our reading time sometimes. I do fully recommend that if a person reads this book they have tissues on hand though. Sometimes it can bring a person to tears. I fully recommend this book. It is a beautifully written emotional story. The characters are easy to connect with. The story is easy to follow. It’s not the typical cheesy story that we usually see. It has its own unique twist. I am so honored that I was able to read this book. I will be reading the rest of this trilogy. I also plan to read her other books as well. This author has talent.

Thank you to the reviewers who told me this was a cliffhanger. I understand the concept of a series, but don't want to be left hanging. Finish the story or don't expect me to but the next one.

Sounds like it was written by a robot. So weird and choppy. No smooth flow to story. Stilted!

Thought this was a book. Thought it was written by an author I wanted to persue. BOY was I fooled. It's just part one of what could be a three part novel, or maybe 6 part, or, who knows -many more parts. Oh well, as P.T. Barnum says, there's a sucker born every day. Guess that me; well played!

What happen.

The story line has the potential of being a good story, but the first person, present tense is awkward and makes the characters seem shallow. It's as if someone were watching a silent film of themselves and describing only the physical actions they are performing. We get nothing about how they are feeling, what they are thinking, their fears or hopes... just a staccato description of their movements, such as walking to the door, making coffee, eating, and numerous times of waiting in the car for the man to come open the door. I didn't learn enough about the characters to even care about what happens to them next, and was thankful when the last page came that it was over. A redo into a narrative style, or any other writing style really, could make this an enjoyable book.

Such a sweet story

Can a book be sickly sweet, gut wrenchingly sad and filled with hope at the same time? If so this is the book. Not fond of cliff hangers like this one. Definitely not a stand alone book. You will need to read all three to complete the story line which sucks. However, once you read the first one (you’re invested)you will want to find out what happens in the second which leads you to the third. I’m curious to find out what is the deal with Molly (thought she died). Oh well. Still debating about buying the other two books.

The ending stinks

I wish a book would tell at the begining that it a part 1 and not a stand alone book. That said, it was a good story line and held your interest.
