This book is absolutely amazing!  Jessica has taken a story I adore, kicked it up a notch and then turned it on it's head.  I love that this is a NA paranormal read.  It is like a little gift wrapped bundle of my favorite things.  Here are ten random reasons why I think this book is made of amazing topped with awesomesauce and sprinkled with spectacular: 1)  It is an "I can not put this book down and if you even think about asking me to then you should be very afraid" book. 2) There is a scene so hot in this book that I was afraid my Kindle would melt. 3) All bets are off.  Everything you thought you knew about the Fallen Star means nothing.  In a great way! 4) Laylen... oh yes, Lalen is back and oh so much better than before ;) 5) Nicholas .... I know another one name reason, but it is such a different reason then Laylen.  You need to just trust me on this one.   6) As awesome as The Fallen Star series is, you can only reread it so many times before you want to know more.  I should know. I have reread each book before the next one came out.   7) New Adult Para!!!  Yep, that is the whole reason right there.  I think this is a genre with a huge void.  We need more. 8) Jessica Sorensen wrote it.  I do not know about you, but if she wrote a self help book about the best ways to watch paint dry, I would read it.  Why?  Because everything I have read of hers is amazing and I have read it all.  9) All the things you wish had happened in The Fallen Star, but knew could not happen because it was YA are now a possibility!  1o) You do not have to know a think about the Fallen Star series to become completely and utterly sucked into this book and the world Jessica has created. I highly recommend this book and am anxiously waiting for more books in this series. The characters seem almost real to me and the story is hot, filled with adventure, and unique.  It is the perfect blend of new adult and paranormal.  Being new adult, I highly suggest you be at least 17 plus before you read this book.

I came back to the description to see if I missed the fact that this was a kid book. Then I see that it's supposed to be the "ADULT" version of a young adult book. I think the author forgot that she was wrting an adult book. This book was painful! I made myself finish it because it wasn't free. It felt like a bad version of Twighlight. At least with that series, it took me until book 3 to get tired of Bella. I was tired of Gemma before I got to the middle of the book. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I got interested at the end and then it was over. Usually, if I don't like a book in a series, I'll try the next one just to see if it's a fluke. I can't even do that with this one. It was that bad.

I normally do not read the supernatural books. I really didn't know it was about that when I started. But turns out I really enjoyed the story anyway. I will continue with book 2 when it comes out, since this one ended so abruptly.

Before I read this book I cleared my mind and acted like this was a brand new story and this was the first time I was reading about Gemma, Alex and Laylen. I loved it! I love the grown up version and the plot was some what different then Fallen Star. I actually like this book better than Fallen Star. Gemma is some what of a cry baby but I guess that's to be expected since she went from no emotions to bam feeling everything all at once. Alex is way sexier in this book but he's a douche bag and some times I wanted to hit him my self. I was never really a big fan of Laylen (yeah I know it's crazy lol) but in this book WOW I love me some Laylen. I love how he's more in tune with being a vampire and how he's still loyal but so so sexy. Nicholas is a bigger a** than what he was so it was really easy to hate him even more than what I did. Aslin wasn't in the book much but she's still the same. If your thinking this is just a rewrite of Fallen Star that you won't miss anything if you don't read it your wrong. You will be missing a whole new side to the characters that you've grown to love. Some steamy scenes that you've been wanting to see. Maybe like me you weren't a big fan of one of the characters maybe this book will change your mind. Give this book a chance and I bet you'll love it and how can you not Jessica wrote it so you know it's great.

It is that time of day again. The time of day when a Jessica Sorensen book goes on sale and the world goes silent. SHATTERED PROMISES went live this morning to the cheers of readers everywhere. The New York Times and USA Today best selling author is proud of this “Reimaging” of her Fallen Star Series. Don’t get sad, you don’t have to know anything about the Fallen Star Series to fall in love with this book but if you do know about it then let me just tell you.. Some of your wildest dreams come true! Let me start off by saying, if you were prompted with the question of 30 minutes alone with a naked and willing Ian Somerhalder, or this book: I would say CHOOSE THE BOOK!!!! It is that good. Gemma is a college senior who has never felt anything until recently. When @$$ hole Alex shuts a door on her arm her world starts to crumble. These characters have firey personalities that are unmatched! Gemma is a super sarcastic girl who just wants the truth, Alex is a good looking butt head and he doesn’t care, Laylen seems to be the only one who really gives a damn and let me just say he can give me damns any day! If you have read the Fallen Star series expect your allegiances to change. The characters I loved in the original I now hope get thrown in the Keepers lake. Jessica wowed me yet again with her ability to make you feel for and yell at fictional characters and inanimate objects. The storyline is well thought out, the flow and pace are perfect and in true Jessica fashion she leaves you clawing for the next page every time. I am dying to know what will happen next and I cannot wait to re-read this book again. Yes, I am that hooked…

If you have read her book "Fallen Star", do not buy this book. It is the same book. Would have been nice if there was a warning about it.

...if I had not read the other books maybe I would have been fine. But I had already read the other 3 books in this series, I came across this one thinking it was a continuation of the series. Not realizing it was the SAME book just written with an older Gemma so that it had mature content. The story almost matched word for word with the other books, just with slightly different details and some "mature content." It was not well written in my opinion. It felt very thrown together with only some details/thought given to the "mature" portions. So bad I didn't even finish it. I think that Jessica Sorensen is a great author, I think she made a bad decision on this book. Either do mature or don't do mature. Don't make one book for young adult readers and another version of the book for "mature content." It was disappointing.

Confusing at times too much going on for something so short. Don't like cliffhangers not sure I will be reading sequel.

I'm not much a paranormal fan, but I must say this book was amazing. I stayed up half the night just so I could see what was going to happen and the ending blew me away.  There were so many scenes that were intense and I hot !  I just wish I could see more Laylan. Yum.

This was originally posted on my blog and I think I fixed all the spots where html or urls were added in the original post which aren't allowed on here so hopefully this all makes sense! :D Plot (5/5): As it states in the summary this book is a re-imagining of her YA series The Fallen Star, so this book was a more adult retelling of that story. Where Gemma was a senior in high school in Fallen Star, she is a senior in college in Shattered promises. Some of the bits and pieces are the same, in a few places the dialogue was as it was in The Fallen Star. But other than that she does change it up quite a bit. As I stated in my review of the other series starter I found the story line to be very unique and I haven't read anything similar and it's a great story line. Characters (5/5): The characters are great and well rounded. So full of life and emotions, struggles, wants, needs, desires. Gemma just struggles with emotions in general having not felt a thing for 17 years. Nothing. No happiness, sorrow, anger...anything. And her reactions to situations are very fitting for someone in her position. She really grows emotionally as the story goes on, with everything she has to deal with. And Alex, as he is described by Gemma in the book as being hot one minute and cold the next, as if he were bipolar, it's kind of how I feel about him. There are times I'm rooting for him and times when I just wanna scream at Gemma to just run! *sigh* and then of course I have a major soft spot in my heart for Laylen :) Maybe it's the whole vampire thing, but I simply adore him. Pacing (5/5): I never really felt like there was a dull moment. Or a lull to the story. There was always just enough of something going on that kept me engaged in the story. The storyline has progressed smoothly. Ending (5/5): This book has the perfect ending. I know if you've read it you're probably saying to yourself right now "what on earth is she talking about?!" Trust me I'm right there with you. Cliffhangers suck! They drive me crazy. All this build up and then you're left at the end thinking, "are you kidding me? You stop there???" But that's just the point. It leaves you dying for the next book. Which I so very much am. And the thing that sucks is... this one JUST CAME OUT. Fractured Souls, the next and final book in the series #Sad Face, is expected to publish in June...that's like...SO LONG. *Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh* Oh well that just gives me extra motivation to finish the YA version of this story line :D Overall Satisfaction (5/5): Truth be told, the whole reason I started reading the Fallen Star series was due to a teaser that Jessica Sorensen put up from this book back around the beginning of February, it was the first teaser I had seen for Shattered Promises and I was quite literally needing to fan myself after seeing that. I had Fallen Star in my NOOK already for a while, but other books kept getting put in front of kept getting shoved to the back of my pile. But once I read that teaser, even though it was going to be a YA version and a bit tamer than this one, I immediately started reading it. And even though I haven't finished, yet, I'm totally loving both of these series. I mean I know basically they're the same thing plot wise but they're both told in a very different way and are equally satisfying. June cannot get here fast enough!!

compared to the fallen star this one beats it in the romance section, it is more steamy and the are more mature

Great books keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book is anything but predictable. Love how the author really developed the characters and they are so relatable.

I stumbled upon this beautiful masterpiece after searching through "Free Nook Books" and instantly fell in love with it, I couldn't get enough nor could I put it down. Usually when I find free nook books they're typically in a series which I don't mind it just gives me more to love & that's what Jessica did. There's not a bad thing I can say about this book because I loved every page. if you enjoy sci-fi, romance and you're 18+ then you can't go wrong with this series. Give it a try & I guarantee you won't regret it!!!

This one is a little hard to rate for me. I have to say that the heroine got on my nerves a little. I had SEVERAL eye roll moments while reading this book. I almost always have to love the heroine to like the book or even finish it. But I guess the storyline was strong enough for me to finish and want to know what happens next. I'd give this book 3.5 stars.
