The twists begin in the second sentence. Cristan Rojas and his thirteen-year-old daughter, Lucia, are living a lie. After his wife and her family of arms dealers were massacred twelve years ago, he fled Argentina with the toddler and created a life in hiding. Has the threat passed? It is safe to stay in one place? Develop true friendships? Against a background of a moderate size Pennsylvania town, Ms. Leigh presents a wide cast of characters from an abused mother of two to the local police chief. She doesn’t forget to add a variety of villains as well as she peels back the events leading up to the day which changed Cristan’s life. I thought I had it figured out at least three times – all wrong.

Christopher's daughter, Luciana, is his all. Her mom is Eva. Eva's father is an arms dealer. The whole family is killed by a rival's attack. Christopher and Luciana survive. I loved all the twists and turns in Christopher's life and at the end, he found true happiness. I wasn't really sure I'd enjoy this story, but ended up loving it. It had great characters, a great plot and a great overall story. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

She Can Kill is the sixth and latest release in Melinda Leigh's fantastic She Can series. I loved all the previous books and couldn't put this one down either. I actually had to add the audio book version so I could continue with the story when I didn't have time to sit down to read. She Can Kill is Cristan's and Sarah's story, who first appeared in book 2 She Can Tell, but each book works fine as a stand alone, as the plot focuses on one particular couple. Cristan has been trying to escape his violent past ever since his wife and her arms dealing family were killed twelve years ago and he escaped with their young daughter. His daughter is babysitting for Sarah who has also fled from violence in the form of her abusive ex-husband Troy who is still creating all sorts of problems for her. The suspense really builds up when Cristan's past catches up with him and Sarah's ex-husband turns more than a little unstable. I love how the characters from the previous books, especially Mike and Sean, are included in the plot and this great family-and-friends-in-a-small-town atmosphere is created. As the tension was building up towards the final confrontation, I never would have predicted the twists Melinda Leigh threw in. Very well written and highly recommended for any romantic suspense readers. I sincerely hope there will be more of this series in the future. I received an ARC via Netgalley in exchanged for an honest review.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2 She Can Kill is like a room of mirrors. You can see your enemy in the reflection but when you turn they are no longer there. In She Can Kill we get to learn more about Cristan and his past. We get to learn that not all is as it seems in his life. We learn that this time his choice to stay may just be the the last choice he ever makes. We also get to see how Sarah (Rachel’s sister (bk 2)) is doing. Which is not great. Sarah finds herself on the wrong end of a very angry ex-husband. She Can Kill has a lot going on. Just when you think you have the enemy in your sights they have moved. I really enjoyed Cristan and Sarah’s story. They both are dealing with choices from their past haunting them in the present. They both care deeply for their children and are willing to go to any lengths to keep them safe. While I kinda figured out the who’s, but the ending shocked me. The why’s were a real shocker to me. It is so hard to write a review and not give away anything. So I will stop while I am ahead and spoiler free. But know that Ms. Leigh has written another excellent story. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Montlake Romance in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

A great fast paced and suspenseful read. I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Who would have thought that a "retired" killer could be a loveable character, but the author has managed to make Christopher Navarro (aka: Cristan Rojas) just that. His love for his daughter (Luciana/Lucia), his patient gentleness and his willingness to go to any length to protect those he cares for, manages to make the reader discount his violent past and see him as one of the good guys, even though his life is a web of lies. His determination to protect his daughter and his budding romance with the emotionally scared Sarah Mitchell endears you to him, but hidden under that calm exterior is an expert killer. This book has you on the edge of your seat, the twists and turns keep the suspense going from start to finish, predictable is not a word that can be applied to this book. It is an exciting, sometimes scary and yet touching book. It is well worth a read.

SHE CAN KILL (SHE CAN SERIES, BK 6) by MELINDA LEIGH Christopher Navarro is an Argentinian who is a hit man of sorts. Working for his father-in-law, who is an arms dealer, he has become a changed man since the birth of his daughter, Luciana. He's been making plans to take his wife, Eva, and Luciana out of the country away from the violence and her family. But Eva does not want to leave. Christopher and Luciana arrive at the ranch for a meeting with the Vargas family, only to find the entire family, including his wife, have been slaughtered. Taking his daughter, he runs. Twelve years later, going by the names of Cristan and Lucia Rojas, they find themselves in a small town in Pennsylvania. All these years, Cristan and his daughter have moved from place to place to place, never staying long.... praying they would not be found. He was a witness to the killing in Argentina, and he knows that one woman was responsible .... his wife had killed her son in cold blood. Aline was out there and still hunting. Cristan meets a woman he is attracted to .. a single mom with two little girls. And a vicious ex-husband who is bent on making Sarah's life miserable. He is still demanding, still controlling and still has the ability to beat her senseless. Someone is targeting Cristan and Sarah. Following them. Taking pictures. Is it the ex-husband? Aline who is still out for blood? Is it time for Cristan and Lucia to run again? The book is terrific! The author does a great job in painting pictures with words. The anger and sorrow at Cristan's wife's death. The running from place to place trying to keep his daughter safe. Afraid to trust anyone with the truth. Afraid to love again. There is lots of action ... and the farther into the book, the more the tension and excitement takes over. And just when you think you know what's going on, the author throws a curve ball at the reader. Things are not always what they seem. Highly recommended with 5 stars. My appreciation and thanks to the author, Amazon Publishing / Montlake Romance / NetGalley who furnished a digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
