She, the President.: A Presidency as Precedent

The American Dream reloaded.

We need an ethical revolution, not a minor movement.

Are women better leaders and statesmen? Why do we export bombs instead of books? Rey Rodriguez has condensed many casual observations into a political plot and scratched umpteen awful points. Come join his dream of a more peaceful world!

What if?

In his political utopia "She, the President." Rey Rodriguez outlines the extraordinary career of Polly, a person of color who just turned 40 and is elected president of the USA. The improbable happens: based on sweeping public support, an all-encompassing political turnaround is initiated.

Rodriguez's thought experiment exposes the intricate global entanglement of financial policy, politics, the arms industry, and industrial agriculture. The author invokes the dawn of a new age of meaningfulness and juxtaposes the excesses of dog-eat-dog-capitalism with a green revolution that shifts education, sustainability, and humanity into the center of existence.

The english edition contains an extensive glossary, a valuable list for further research and a preface from the author explaining the context of the unfolding events of of late 2020 and early 2021 taking place in the US.

Authors Foreword:

I would like to use the opportunity provided by the publication of the English edition to express my thoughts with regard to the responses, critique, and discussions that followed the publication of the German edition.

Likewise, with the following information and the addition of a short glossary and suggestions for further reading, I hope to make the ideas expressed in the book clearer to those who read it as well as provide a deeper look into the material for those who are curious.

The publication of this book was not specifically planned to coincide with the difficult and historically significant events now taking place in the USA: the final days of the most recent presidential term have been unprecedented and antagonistic, with a storming of the Capitol by an agitated mob. Though it was not my intention, in this context this book can certainly be read ambiguously.

For this reason, I would like to emphasize that the fictional events, actions, people, and groups such as the "Green Block", the deployment of the National Guard, and the use of Executive Orders as a chosen strategy are not meant to provide encouragement to those who would subvert or overthrow democracy!

Because democratic principles and values are a tremendous achievement of human civilization, everyone who supports those principles must then automatically be an anti-fascist!

From natural disasters, the Cold War and tyrannical dictatorships to terrorism and the global climate crisis -- events like these have been and will continue to be instrumentalized for political purposes; in emergency situations such situations provide a way or perhaps even create a need to implement essential measures immediately in order to cope with crises of global proportions. The current pandemic has shown us that despite all of our knowledge and education, we humans cannot or don't want to comprehend some complex processes -- and that Nature, when seen as our "opponent", does not play according to our rules, but rather its own, and "playing for time" doesn't really work.

The book attempts to bring together the economic, political, and sociocultural contexts of global events that may appear insignificant into a compact and contemporary story in order to concisely and effectively demonstrate the interactions among the actions we take both personally and as a society. For this reason, some subjects are, by design, only sketched out and are not discussed in proportion to their true urgency and significance -- which in no way minimizes their importance!

And now I hope you enjoy the book!
