Los Angeles Joy Division-obsessed duo She Wants Revenge blend electronic beats with goth pop misery on their self-titled Geffen debut. DJs Justin Warfield and Adam "Adam 12" Bravin may have crafted the post-punk equivalent of XTC alter-egos Dukes of Stratosphear's psychedelic rock tribute Chips from the Chocolate Fireball, but there is suspicion as to whether or not it was intentional. Like fellow reanimators Interpol, the Bravery, or even the mysterious Lansing-Dreiden, She Wants Revenge love early Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, and pre-Land of Rape and Honey Ministry, but what makes their impeccably crafted, highly listenable/danceable collection of angst so dubious is its utter duplicity. There's nothing wrong with honoring your influences by copping a few moves and singing in a fake British accent like Green Day with the intentions of updating a genre that many potential listeners are too young to have experienced first-hand, but it's another thing to do it without even the slightest deviation.

I first heard She Wants Revenge on iTunes and was immeaditely hooked the music is like Interpol meets Depeche Mode and the Cure. 1. Red Flags and Long Nights: This song is one of the few that could be mistaken for Interpol the guitar sounds very much like Untitled (Interpol, Turn on the Bright Lights). A very good song. 2. These Things: The piano takes forefront on this song, and sounds very haunting. A good song however it is a bit repetitive. 3. I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love: A very fast paced song, a nice beat, but it is not as memorable as the other tracks. It almost sounds as if it once sounded different and then was remixed. If it were shorter it would have been better. 4. Out Of Control: A nicely paced song that has nice transitions, and is rather catchy. Very stylish. 5. Monologue: One of the best songs, it reminds me of Halo (Depeche Mode, Violator). It has a sinister sound to it, and the lyrics make it ideal to be a vampires theme song. 6. Broken Promises for Broken Hearts: Another good song directly after Monologue, Broken Promises picks up the pace quickly and efficiently. The lyrics are reminiscent of the Cure. 7. Sister: Another song which could be mistaken for Interpol. Good guitar, a nice beat and a fast bass line. A very good song with catchy, meaningful lyrics. 8. Disconnect: A rather boring instrumental that seems kind of pointless. It sounds like an old keyboard (which it probably is) playing the same notes over and over again. 9. Us: Very eighties. This song sounds very similar to Depeche Mode. There is not much to say about this song other than the fact that it is one of the slower songs. 10. Someone Must Get Hurt: A good song with a bit too long of a beginning. Very haunting, and the guitar is cool and dark. Vocally it sounds like Interpol, but once again the main song sounds like Depeche Mode. 11. Tear You Apart: The first song that I heard of She Wants Revenge. It immediately lured me to it because of it resemblance to Interpol. However it is one of the weaker songs on the album, as it is not as stylish as Broken Promises or Out Of Control. Also the cursing ruins the ride for me, as I can’t help but feel that the song would have been much better without it. It ends up sounding a bit immature. 12. She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: The entire song reeks of the Cure, right down to the depressing feel and atmosphere of the song. It still is a very good song however. 13. Cache: The “hidden” song on the CD, my favorite song, starts of with very good piano which continues into the entire song and is later joined by guitar. It is an extremely sinister and stylish combination, the way it changes from piano straight into a really cool guitar riff. This is almost like Tear You Apart version 2. My favorite song on the album. This concludes my review of She Wants Revenge. I bought it and was very pleased with it. She Wants Revenge isn’t terribly original however if you like bands that sound like other bands you will like She Wants Revenge, but if you don’t you obviously won’t.

Fun, up-beat, dark goth. Makes me want to sit in a dark damp basement of a burning house.

I Saw Them on Craig Ferguson recently. I thought they were interesting enough to pick up the CD. I really enjoy the simplicity and energy. It's interesting that they sing about women. If you ever see them perform, you'll know what I mean.

This energetic and unbelievably talented group is undersold. The album is pulsating and very reminicent of early Depech Mode. Saw them live I would swear I was transported back in time to a better era, namely the 80's.
