I started this book and could not put it down. Before I knew it, I read the entire book in one sitting. Very good writing and story!

Let me be honest with you. I got the book as a gift and I don't know if I would have bought it because there is always some never-heard-of-before writer, director, producer what-have-you trying to tell a story about basketball. I get tired of the stereotypes and lose my patience. Aside from that I wasn't thrilled with the cover art, maybe that will change with the second edition. With all that being said this is a must read for any teenager, college student or anyone interested in pop culture.

I have to give it to the author. Mago is wonderful. He writes a thoroughly intelligent story and offers a psychological insight into wide array people who aspire to excel in sports.

The characters are deep. Blur is fascinating as well as The Drunken Monkey AKA Frenchie. If you have a troubled male teenager at home buy this book! If you know of any teen who has to read a book for his English class buy this book. If you are in college and have some down time buy this book! It is highly motivational.

FUNNY AS HECK AND POIGNANT AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN BLUR TRULY LOOKS WITHIN HIMSELF AND DOES SOME SOUL SEARCHING. I LIKE THE TITLE AND HOW THE AUTHOR USES IT TO COMPARE AND CONTRAST SPORTS TO THE CRUEL ASPECTS OF LIFE. HOW COME I NEVER HEARD OF THIS AUTHOR BEFORE? I LIKE THE WAY HE WRITES. HE IS NOT TRYING TO IMPRESS, IT IS LIKE HE IS JUST TALKING TO YOU AND TELLING A STORY. IT IS SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY MIXED TOGETHER WHICH IS UNIQUE AND REFRESHING.

I thought the book ended too soon, I indeed wanted more. I am looking forward to a sequel of sorts. Reading Shelterball, made me so nostalgic for my childhood. Growing up, all of my friends and I had nicknames like in the book; it had me reflecting on my youth. This book was just what I needed!

Good story and great characters! I love the way the main character, Blur, doesn't give up on himself even after he makes a lot of mistakes. The story is not corny, like other books, it follows a good basketball player who is just a man and who makes mistakes, like all of us. Also, I like the way he is caught between two different worlds and has choices to make. At first, i did'nt get the poetry, but I really like the impact it has on the book and gives us a look at the depth of the character. I played basketball in high school and still do with my friends, and I wish I had a point guard like Blur. Overall, very good, entertaining and an easy read.

I was given this book as a gift and i just finished it. Now, I am out of breath from laughing and crying. I, myself, have just gotten out of an abusive relationship and it is like i was in the story. The way the author describes what goes on in your mind, brought me to tears. I could so relate to the poor girl in the story because it was just me not too long ago. I found the poetry in the book deeply moving and honest. The flashbacks in the book reminded me of my friends when i was a child, and I haven't thought about them in a long time. I am going to get on the phone this weekend and catch up. The basketball sequences were action-packed and riveting and the way the author tied together all the characters and plot twists was just so precise and on target. It is refreshing to see an author not afraid to take chances with a topic or style change. This definately is not a story that has been done before, and i love the originality and realness of it all. I pictured it in my head like a movie and I only hope someone has the fortitude to put it on the big screen, something so unlike anything in Hollywood. Anyone who likes a real life story with real problems and real feelings is going to love this book. I'm going to recommend Shelterball to all my friends!
