She's My Kind of Girl by Jennifer Dawson

"An author to watch out for.” –RT Book Reviews

In high school, they’d burned fast and hot. Now is their chance to find out if the sparks that linger will ignite a whole new flame.
The only thing Darcy Miller ever wanted more than gorgeous troublemaker Griffin Strong was to shake off the dust of small-town Revival, Illinois, and head to the big city—even if she had to leave him behind. Ten years later, Darcy is the ultimate New Yorker, writing a sex blog and living on designer cocktails and the pulse of urban life. That is, until she hears that Revival plans to seize her mother’s house right after the holidays, thanks to the new mayor—who is none other than Darcy’s ex…
Griffin couldn’t have asked for a more dangerous Christmas gift. Curvy, sassy Darcy is every bit as delectable as the wild child she was in high school—and just as determined to stir up problems. But Griffin learned long ago to straighten up and fly right in order to make changes in the town he loves. Keeping his reputation wholesome is a big part of that. If only Darcy didn’t make him want to take his place on the naughty list with her, right under the mistletoe…
Praise for Jennifer Dawson’s Take a Chance on Me

About the Author

Jennifer Dawson grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in psychology. She met her husband at the public library while they were studying. To this day she still maintains she was NOT checking him out. Now, over twenty years later, they’re married and living in a suburb right outside of Chicago with two awesome kids and a crazy dog.
Despite going through a light FM, poem writing phase in high school, Jennifer never grew up wanting to be a writer (she had more practical aspirations of being an international super spy). Then one day, suffering from boredom and disgruntled with a book she’d been reading, she decided to put pen to paper. The rest, as they say, is history.
These days Jennifer can be found sitting behind her computer, writing her next novel, chasing after her kids, keeping an ever watchful eye on her ever growing to-do list, and NOT checking out her husband.

Loved this novella! Darcy & Griffin are such a combustible couple, it was fun to guess when they'd finally give in to each. My only true complaint is the story was just too short. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is a second chance novella that features bad boy Griffon and bad girl Darcy that dated in high school but broke up when she left town after graduation. Ten years pass and Darcy's mom tricks her into returning to town and she is shocked to learn that Griffin is now the town's mayor. Their feelings for each other haven't left and Darcy is make a hard choice between her life in the city and her love in her hometown. This was a well written novella and I enjoyed watching the characters grow and how they interacted with each other and the people around them. i was given a free copy for an honest review.

She's My Kind of Girl by new to me author Jennifer Dawson, is a sweet and sexy novella. It is a fast-paced reunion romance between high school sweethearts that are from the wrong side of the tracks. Journalist Darcy Miller, and mayor/account Griffin Strong, were madly in love during high school. They were inseparable, causing havoc whenever they got the chance, while sharing themselves intimately with each other. The only thing that Darcy loved about living in the small town of Revival, was Griffin. Once she graduated, she took off to pursue a new and exciting life in New York City. Griffin stayed put and grew up into a reputable man. He helped raise his younger siblings and eventually became involved in local politics. Now it is twelve years later and Darcy is back in town, attempting to help her mother keep her totally dilapidated home. Griffin is all about revitalizing Revival, and Darcy's mother's home is the last holdout. Their attraction is greater than ever and Darcy's mom is unscrupulous in her match-matching efforts. This is a terrific story that I enjoyed very much. Darcy and Griffin have a sizzling connection and Ms. Dawson does an excellent job of creating sexual anticipation, need and desire. I found the secondary characters to be interesting and fun. Gracie is a particularly wonderful friend to Darcy. Overall, this is a well-written, slightly emotional contemporary romance, and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

She's My Kind of Girl is part of Jennifer Dawson's "Something New" series but each book can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger and a HEA. This is only the second book in the series that I have read, but I still really enjoyed it. Although I do have to admit that I think I liked the other one (The Name of the Game, #3) maybe just a teeny bit better. This one is a very quick read at a novella length so I read it all in one sitting. Darcy is an award-winning author and blogger living in New York City. When her mom calls her to come down to her old hometown to help save her house she is less than pleased. She is even less happy to find out that her first love is now the town mayor and is the one responsible for her mother losing her house. Griffin is very much the reformed bad boy. When he and Darcy were dating they drove the town's people crazy with their shenanigans, but once his mom got sick and he had to look out for his younger brothers he decided to grow up a bit. Now he is very involved in making the town succeed and become a better place for everyone. I really loved how Darcy said pretty much anything that was one her mind and wasn't at all afraid to let you know how she felt about something. There was definitely a ton of chemistry between the two of them, but I guess you could say this one is more of a slow burn romance. It takes a while before they are finally "together". ** I received an ARC of this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. **

Darcy Miller storms into Revival, Illinois on a mission to save her mother's home, and runs smack dab into the man who broke her heart ten years ago when he chose to stay in their little hometown instead of following her to the big city. Nothing could have prepared her for seeing Griffin Strong, he is even more gorgeous now than he was ten years ago, and the sparks they shared then instantly return when they come face to face with one another. She'd love nothing more than to give into the attraction and the sparks arcing between them, but he is the enemy... the man trying to take her mother's home, and she isn't about to let him win this war!! Griffin Strong lost the love of his life ten years ago when she chose to leave their small town for the big city, and he has thought of her often in the last ten years. Back then they were the town misfits, but now he has turned over a new leaf, and is the town mayor and is doing all he can to breath new life into his hometown, and in order for that to happen he must convince his ex's mother to sell her home. He knows he is asking a lot of her, but the land her home sits on is perfect for the new development project he has in mind, so he makes her a generous offer, but she refuses, and even calls in reinforcements... his ex Darcy. The minute Darcy breezes back into his life she turns it upside down and has him wanting to do things the good mayor should not be doing... he knows that there is no way he can let her walk away again, but there is no way he is deserting his little town! It has been a while since I have last visited the residents of Revival, Illinois, but after a chapter into the story, I was pulled right back into the thick of things, and it felt as if I had never left. This charming little story capture my attention from the get go and had me flying through the pages in search of what I hoped to be a very well deserved second chance for the sexy mayor and the beautiful and feisty girl who stole his heart, and I am happy to report I found that and SO much more!! If you have not made a trip to Revival and met Ms. Dawson's endearing characters I HIGHLY recommend you remedy that very soon, they are certain to leave you with a happy heart, and reaffirm your belief in second chances!! ARC requested through NetGalley, and kindly provided by Kensington Books - Zebra in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.

She’s My Kind of Girl is a fast-paced and easy read. I found the story-line to be really enjoyable. I loved the drama of Darcy, the bad girl, having to return home to the one that got away. On the outside it may seem like Griffin has grown up and let go of his bad boy ways, but when Darcy returns home, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Even though many years have passed, the pull between Darcy and Griffin is stronger than ever and it’s only a matter of time before these two give in to the passion that they share. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Even though it was fast paced, I thought it worked very well with this book. I fell in love with Darcy and Griffin from the moment I met them. The sparks between the two of them were undeniable. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. She’s My Kind of Girl is a novella in the Something New Series, but it definitely can be read as a stand-alone. I fell in love with the characters and their town and am looking forward to going back and discovering the previous books in this series. She’s My Kind of Girl has the perfect mix of drama, sex and romance. If you’re looking for a quick, but sexy and entertaining read, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

As teenagers their love and passion burned bright and fierce but it wasn't strong enough to hold Darcy Miller in Revival. She longed for city life and no amount of begging could get Griffin Strong to join her. When she left Revival's bad boy behind she never expected to see him again. Now, ten years later, she's back in Revival to help her mother save her home. Seeing Griff again is hard but seeing the changes in him make her crazy. Griffin has worked hard the last ten years to shake his bad boy persona and portray himself as the wholesome hometown guy. Now the Mayor of Revival, he plans to do everything he can to save his town. Sparks will fly as Griffin and Darcy are reunited and battle over her mother's property. Will Griff be able to keep that bad boy at bay or will Darcy convince him to come out and play?? A fun, sexy, quick read that was completely entertaining. I definitely recommend this one.

Jennifer Dawson is an author that knows how to spice it up. Her heroes are fantasy material and the heroines hold all the cards. She's My Kind of Girl, puts Darcy in the driver seat and Griffin is her willing passenger. Young love and second chances are central to the theme of this story. Prodigal daughter Darcy returns just in time to stir up old love, Griffin's carefully orchestrated plans and ends up questioning her own life plans. Shorter than her usual stories but still delightfully entertaining.

4 - "You've come home." Stars! Nothing makes me happier than discovering an author who I haven’t read before and absolutely falling in love with their writing and characterizations, from the first paragraph. She’s My Kind of Girl is the first book I have read by Jennifer Dawson, and as book 4.5 in the Something New series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Something about Darcy Miller had always reached inside of him and Squeezed. Second-chance, with a side of frenemies is a really good mix for romance, and Darcy and Griffin’s story fulfilled every requirement I have in relation to it. Both kids from the wrong side of the tracks from a small town in Illinois, who fell in love with each other at a young age. But whereas one got out and pursued a life in the Big Apple, the other stuck around, cleaned up their act, and is now the town’s Mayor. She was wild and he was reformed. In fact it is Griff’s capacity as town Mayor that has caused Darcy to have to return to Revival, as his plans for vitalizing the town include running a bulldozer straight through her mother’s house, something she vows to fight against with any means she can. He’d had more fun with her in the last five minutes than he had in the last year of dates. I loved this novella, it was a really quick read, but it didn’t feel underdeveloped, the introduction to the town of Revival and its characters was broad, and you are also given updates on characters from the previous four books, none of which I have read, but am desperate to sink my teeth into now. "Did you grow up? Or give up?" The chemistry between Griff and Darcy sizzled from the beginning, this is a couple with a past and you can feel it from all of their interactions, add in a little bit of sexy, ad dash of Christmas sparkle, and I finished this novella with a smile on my face, my Amazon account credit is also a little lighter as well, as I ended up one-clicking all four previous books in the series. "I’m breaking all my rules for you." Jennifer Dawson is an author I have added to my auto-buy list after this novella, and I recommend that you check it out. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Liked it…yes I did! And, that is saying something. Why? For some reason the idea of second-chance-at-love stories don’t work for me. In my past every time I gave a guy a second chance and tried dating him again I soon realized that the reasons we broke up were still valid so the relationship still would not work. In this story Griffin and Darcy had been high school sweethearts and they really did love one another BUT there were issues that kept them apart that twelve years later might be surmountable – if they want them to be. Darcy never planned to return to her home town BUT when her mother called asking for help to save their family home Darcy made an exception and headed home. From the first moment Griffin and Darcy saw one another again the embers of love that had been banked but never put out were fanned into what might become a blaze…if they let it. But, if Darcy is returning to New York and Griffin is staying in Revival is there really any chance of a long term relationship or will there be heartbreak a second time? Great short novella with everything I look for in a great story. The main characters were both strong and able to express themselves and their needs, both were smart and aware, they were willing to take what they wanted but not if it meant hurting someone else, they both had friends and were friends…it was a fun way to spend a bit of time. Revival seems a fun place to live with plenty of fodder for future books ;) Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the copy to read and review in exchange for my honest review.
