About the Author

Linda Elovitz Marshall raised her four children, a small flock of sheep, lots of zucchinis and countless rabbits in a historic farmhouse overlooking the Hudson River in upstate New York. A graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University, she has, in addition to writing and farming, taught early childhood and parenting education, owned a bookstore. Her previous books include Talia and the Rude Vegetables and Talia and the Very YUM Kippur.

Evgenia Golubeva grew up in rainy and grey St. Petersburg. She studied fine arts in art school and directing and screenwriting for animation at the University of Cinema and Television. She lives in London.

Alliterative rhymes carry readers through a noisy week that culminates in a serene Shabbat celebration. On each page, Marshall (Talia and the Rude Vegetables) introduces animals taking in the action. “On a hither-thither Thursday/ Thrush hears/ Thumping, bumping basketballs,/ Thundering voices, laughs, and calls,” she writes as newcomer Golubeva’s cheerful digital illustrations show children playing outdoors. A golden dome and other familiar structures suggest the setting to be Jerusalem, and a closing scene of a Shabbat dinner in a family’s “peaceful, quiet home” strikes a gently reverent note to lead into readers’ own observances.
