Discover The True Identities of The MagicKeepers
Jasmine Bowen and Zhu Hsia have combined their talents to write a young-adult, paranormal romance - an attention grabber from the start with a new twist on witches.
Fourteen years old and superbright, Karina wants to expand her horizons before settling down to marry John, her school sweetheart. She has long been fascinated by witches and has grown up in an age that has seen a considerable increase in the witch population, which has given rise to a new form of social discrimination. Their supernatural abilities often coupled with some form of physical impairment have caused them to be shunned and profoundly misunderstood, and Karina is determined to help redress the balance.
Karina dreams of becoming a United Nations interpreter and defender of human rights, and has set her sights on a school and college in Louisiana which offer exactly the programs she wants to study. The obstacles against her are formidable, but Karina stops at nothing to achieve her ends, and she at last finds herself in her dream school in Louisiana.
To make ends meet, Karina takes a part-time job in a trendy club where she meets and befriends Jules, who is a witch. Deeply hurtful experiences in Jules’s past have affected his magic abilities and he is unable to control the electrical charges from his hands when his space is threatened. His photosensitive eyes have caused him to live the night life; he has become addicted to gambling and Jules is in trouble. . .
Determined to help him, Karina makes Jules her first case study. But when, she takes Jules home with her, one vacation, she is unprepared to find that the friends and neighbors whom she has known all her life, fall far short of her newly learned values. Her feelings for her boyfriend John have undergone a dramatic change too; and suddenly, she discovers the full meaning of choice, the dangers of jealousy, and the hurt that subterfuge can cause.
Confronted with new and unfamiliar emotions, will she find a way to achieve her goals while balancing her old life with the new? How Karina can achieved her goals with unforeseen obstacles approaching? Can she find her true identity?
This is an enthralling story about magic, about acceptance and tolerance, and the pitfalls of growing up. It is the first book of a trilogy - to follow Karina’s star, watch out for the next spellbinding episode.

This seems like a pretty good start to a new series. I love the build up of a relationship between the main characters. Can't wait to read the next books in the series.
While this was not what I was expecting. This is a very well written story. The blurb was that it was a paranormal romance. So I was expecting more of a non-traditional setting. However the story was good and the underlying theme of social inequality did point out some of our own current problems in society. This story is definitely one that I would recommend to my friends who are interested in a 'soft' romance with an urban flair.
