Ship Out of Luck by Neal Shusterman

A hilarious new companion novel to The Schwa Was Here

It's Old Man Crawley's eightieth birthday, and nothing says celebration like a weeklong vacation on the biggest cruise ship in the world. But with the Bonano family along for the ride, it's anything but smooth sailing; where Antsy goes, trouble follows.

Enter Tilde: a stowaway and thief whose self-made mission has led her directly to the ship, and to Antsy, in particular. Antsy suddenly finds himself in over his head--an accomplice to illegal activity, staring down the law, and facing sudden debarkation. What's a Brooklyn boy to do? Can he stay afloat in this hot water, or is Antsy in too deep?

I read a preview copy of this book in one day and could not put it down! While the book touches a multitude of real life topics (illegal immigration, elderly, family dynamics, etc.) it is a light hearted read with unforgettable characters. All of the characters are well developed yet you still find yourself surprised by some of their revelations throughout the book. You can't help but love the main character, Antsy, and root for him to finally realize how smart he really is. The secondary characters are so endearing as well that I found myself wanting to know more about them. I was particularly fond of the old curmudgeon, Mr. Crowley, and would love to see a book about his back story. I bet old Mr. Crowley has a few stories to share! I loved this book for so many reasons but in the end all that matters is a stellar author has yet again thrown together a great plot with great characters and created hysterical page turning magic that young adults and adults alike will truly enjoy.
