Ships and Boats

Ships and Boats

by Arlene Bourgeois Molzahn

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Ships and Boats opens with the high interest tale of the Titanic, a sure attention-getter for chapter one. From there Molzahn moves on to descriptions of modern boats and ships. The parts of a ship and kinds of ships and boats are presented in chapter two, with a good number of photographs to illustrate the concepts. Then we go back in time with a discussion of the history of boats, from the first log raft to the newest, biggest luxury cruise liner. Details are presented of the kinds of jobs available working with ships and boats and safety on the water. Chapter seven, the last chapter provides a brief discussion of modern boat racing and the future of shipbuilding. A timeline of boat history, glossary, index and suggested reading list are included. This is a fast paced and highly readable volume. Plenty of attractive color photographs are scattered throughout and the pages have large text and portions of whites space. Younger children will enjoy the pictures while older students will learn a great deal about ships, boats and their history. 2003, Enslow,
