SHOT OF TEQUILA by JA Konrath

Book Description:

Shot of Tequila takes place in the early 1990s, and is both an homage to and a re-envisioning of classic action novels by authors like Mickey Spillane, Ross MacDonald, Donald Westlake, and Elmore Leonard, but with a more modern twist.

The breakneck action is intercut with scenes featuring Konrath's series hero Jack Daniels, here as a supporting character chasing the main protagonist.

Edge-of-your-seat suspense, non-stop action, and dark humor punctuate this heist novel/fugitive-on-the-run thriller. Fans of Konrath's police procedurals will enjoy the slight departure from his normal writing style, while still finding familiarity with the setting and characters.

SHOT OF TEQUILA is approximately 75,000 words.

The story line was thrilling, and the introduction of Jack Daniels was breath taking.

Sometime you choose a book from the way the cover looks, sometimes it’s the title.  In this case, the title caught my attention.  In addition, the mystery genre added to it. Mobsters, crime bosses, loan sharks-the type of people you don’t double cross.  Tequila worked for them, collecting monies due.  Super Bowl is always a big pay day.  Who would dare to rob the boss of the biggest take of the year?  The butterfly tattoo on Tequila’s hand would make one think it’s Tequila, but he was somewhere else, or was he? Detective Jacqueline Daniels, or Jack for short, has caught the case of a robbery gone wrong.  Quite a few dead bodies add to the case.  Work with Jack to determine who did what and why.  Is it Tequila or not? Quite the cast of characters and a bit on the descriptive side when it comes to the detail in the violence, but overall a very good read.  This is part of the “Jack Daniels” series.

Too much violence for my taste. The descriptions of violence and gore slowed down the story line.
