She ran from her past.
After relocating from a small town in Tennessee, Mila has been living in New York City for a year and a half, more than happy to be lost in the crowd. Living vicariously through her best friend and roommate, Nikki, Mila spends her days waitressing and her evenings at home. Then, one night, after getting exclusive tickets to a nightclub downtown, Nikki is able to convince Mila to let loose for once.
He’s running from his future.
Having lived a privileged life, William is used to getting what he wants, and who he wants. Now, though, in his thirties, he’s bored, and seeking more from his life than mindless sex, and even worse—mindless women. Spotting Mila from across the club, he senses right away that she’s different from what he’s used to, an observation that proves true.
One night together will change everything for both of them. Pasts and futures will collide, secrets will be revealed, and the results will transform both their lives forever.

Mila and Nikki go to a nightclub where they meet Will. Mila and Will have instant chemistry and take advantage of that insta connection and have a one-night stand. Mila wakes up in the morning to a note from Will with his name and phone number on it. Will realizes that he needs to build a relationship with someone and not just fall into bed with them so he decides to take Mila out on dates and get to know her. Both are holding back big pieces of themselves in the beginning and Will takes the brave step to tell her the truth about his wealth and his family. Mila continues to hold back her story and it almost costs them all their lives. Although I get Mila's reluctance to share her past, she owed it to Will before ever declaring her love for him. Will's family was so obsessed with appearances and their rudeness to Mila was just uncalled for. Will had to finally decide who was more important, his family or Mila. Will was blindsided when her past makes an ugly appearance and, although she professed she was sorry it was a lot too late. Will was able to forgive her and try to see things from her POV but I still had my reservations about her penchant for running and not going to the police was a big red flag for me. It was an overall good book and an easy read. There were some typos and words missing and that did become a bit of a distraction but overall was still a good read. I would give it 3.5 stars.
AN UNEXPECTED BUT ENJOYABLE DEPARTURE 'Shut Up and Kiss Me' is a throwback to a time when a romance book was just that, a book about romance, a budding relationship, courtship if you will with all the nerves, emotions, sexual tension and awkwardness that go into getting to know each other, starting to build something together. Too many times, especially since the explosion of the Fifty Shades books, the market is saturated with so called romance books that are really just boy meets girl plus sex, lots of explicit, nothing else going on, sex and whilst I'm as up for a hot book as the next person there is sometimes not a balance - plot, characters, secondary cast, emotions plus romance and sex – all or some is good! 'Shut Up and Kiss Me' is an old fashioned straight-up chick lit romance but better written because these two authors , separately or together, couldn’t write a bad book. The plot's been done before yes - millionaire playboy, girl with secret past, yada yada yada - so why pick this one up? Because both were born to write, the Horror Queen and the straight up Mistress of Words, no matter the genre there is no question of their talent, their ability to breathe fresh life into it and that this partnership is one to watch and devour. Will is bored, jaded and looking for different, Mila is running from her past and wishing she could stand still and live. Their relationship unfolds with a twist, some suspense thrown in and two stellar secondary characters, Nikki and Richard * insert much swooning and drooling *, I'd like to see much more of Richard, he stole every scene he was in! If you have read their previous works then you may be surprised as this a total departure from anything else they have written independently or together but enjoy the light and fluffy, then go explore the horror, the paranormal and the gritty, raw bikers because you won't regret a second………………..
Another great read from madeline and claire... loved the teaser for beneath blood and bone...
