Medieval Studies professor Clara Cartwright is unaware of the Mafia’s interest when she comes to Sicily to collect research on the Normans. Disturbing things occur as she arrives. She discovers that someone has read her e-mail; she suspects that she is being followed. Clara and Sicilian archivist, Gaetano Perillo had exchanged e-mails in which Clara expressed knowledge of a lost royal artifact. Gaetano offers to be her guide. In the course of their sojourn around Sicily, they fall in love but events arouse her suspicion regarding the Sicilian’s motives.
