Divorce a husband, lose a career …grapple with a murder.

TV journalist Elizabeth "E.M." Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn't stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the "Helping Out!" reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman,Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.

Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?

Soon she's in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who sees her as a handy rung on his career ladder. And there's the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who's set on proving her father's innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy.

But Elizabeth won't fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her Sign Off.

This was a fun little mystery that several times made me laugh out loud. The characters had some depth and I loved the main character's sarcasm. Kept my interest throughout.

A 220 page very well-written free mystery of a top east coast political TV reporter sent to a small Wyoming station to finish her contract when her divorce from her producer husband gets vindictive. Personalities clash and her stint as a Consumer reporter is even regarded with jealousy and innuendo. Then a small girl's demand that she save her Daddy from a murder......... What will a few questions matter? And so starts an interesting, amusing, ironic, and convoluted tale in a small western town.

A fun to read book. The characters run the gamut from a precocious eight-year-old to an egotistical politician to a white-haired retired schoolteacher who can remember everything about several generations of her students. The mystery is finally solved and now that we've become so well-acquainted with most of the inhabitants of small-town Sherman,WY, we're ready for the next mystery.

Keeps you guessing right to the end.

I would have given it a higher rating except some of the characters were ripped off of idiotic TV characters.

Hard to follow all the players and the plot with so many side comments , background, descriptions thoughts and actions. Eventually, I just skipped some in order to get on with the story.

The characters are for the most part interesting and lovable. The plot is great with a story that pulls you in and keeps you guessing. The book was a nice to read with no overly annoying grammar issues.

It was an okay read. Tough to get through the first part and keep the characters straight. It didn't really hold my interest until the second half. I wouldn't pay for it, but if you can get it for free, it's worthy it.....

4 stars for pretty good writing; +1 enjoyed; -1 too many things going on; -1 too many people; -2 illiteracy (grammar & punctuation); -1 vulgarity; +2 no sex scene. That leaves 2 stars.
