Erika Knight's simple ethos and clean design sensibility continues to be popular amongst crafters of every level. Following the success of both Simple Knitting and Simple Crocheting, Knight shares her color expertise using the same workshop-based project format. As you work through the projects, you learn new techniques allowing you to build up an essential repertoire of color-knitting skills, like working motifs in intarsia or creating Fair Isle patterns. When completed, you will have a stunning collection of colorful projects including multicolor throws, colorblock cushions, Fair Isle mittens, and striped scarves and sweaters. You'll also learn the secrets to composing an enticing color palette, as Knight shares her knowledge of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors; tints, shades, contrasts, and tones in practical terms that anyone can understand. With inspiring photography by Yuki Sugiura that showcases each of the projects beautifully, and supported with clear colorwork charts and illustrations, Simple Color Knitting will take your knitting know-how to the next level.

Knitwear designer Knight (Simple Knitting) introduces four basic colorwork techniques—stranded knitting, intarsia, slip-stitch knitting, and duplicate stitch—in this workshop-style collection of tutorials and patterns. Knight begins with the standard explanation of color theory and the color wheel, as well as an overview of colorwork techniques. The sample swatch gallery, organized by technique, shows the effects that can be produced with each type of knitting. Knitters are then invited to practice each technique in a series of patterns that explore color combinations via color knitting. While most colorwork patterns feature fine-weight yarns, the majority of the patterns in this book are for worsted-weight and bulky yarns, which may reduce the intimidation factor for knitters new to colorwork. Increasing the scale of traditional colorwork also produces some interesting effects, such as the large-scale houndstooth hat, in which this traditional motif is transformed into abstract shapes as it travels around the cap. The combination of watercolor illustrations and Sugiura's dramatic and beautifully lighted photographs add flair to Knight's exploration of color knitting. VERDICT Colorwork is a popular topic, and Knight's collection is best for knitters with an appreciation for fine design and for knitters most comfortable working with bulkier yarns.
