Pete Seeger's life's work was giving America back its folk music, but he wasn't after a stylish facsimile of American folk. He wanted a folk music with social utility, a folk music that lived and breathed with the times, but also a folk music that pushed betterment and change, and he never wavered from these standards throughout his long career. This two-disc, 50-track set does a good job telling Seeger's musical story, with several tracks from his earlier work with the Almanac Singers
and the Weavers
, as well as a generous sampling of his subsequent solo recordings, resulting in a nice survey of his iconic legacy.
