Sing Out for Seva

Sing out for Seva is a charity album for the Seva Foundation that compiles highlights from the foundation's benefit concerts in Berkeley, California, over the years. All 12 featured artists are somehow associated with West Coast folk- and blues-rock, if not part of the Grateful Dead or Crosby, Stills & Nash themselves. Consequently, the album has a nice, laid-back feel, which compensates for the lack of any real surprises. The only unexpected turns are Bob Weir's cover of "K.C. Moan" and Mickey Hart's "Luna," but that's to the album's benefit, since these songs fit nicely next to staples by Arlo Guthrie, Bruce Hornsby, David Crosby and Graham Nash, Phil Lesh, Jorma Kaukonen, Maria Muldaur, Dan Bern, and Mickey Hart. It's not an exceptional effort, but it's certainly not bad -- and it's a nice way to contribute to the Seva Foundation.
