Although singles are singled out for unfair treatment by the workplace, the marketplace, and the federal tax structure, they are not simply victims of this singlismsingle people really are living happily ever after.
Singled Out Debunks Ten Myths of Singlehood, Including:
-MythThe Dark Aura of Singlehood: You are miserable and lonely and your life is tragic.
-MythAttention, Single Women: Your work won't love you back and your eggs will dry up. Also, you don't get any and you're promiscuous.
-MythAttention, Single Men: You are horny, slovenly, and irresponsible, and you are the scary criminals. Or you are sexy, fastidious, frivolous, and gay.

E. Kay Trimberger, author of The New Single Woman
"The singles movement is coming to a bookstore near you."
"Fascinating . .this book could hardly have come at a better time. As much as societal adulation of the couple discriminates against single people, Singled Out suggests that it can also undermine marriage."

All couples should be required to read this. Any person elected to government office should be required to memorize it. Finally singles shown as they really are, and the myths couples apply to them.
enjoyed the history of societal perceptions regarding singleness, political repercussions and how many accomplish the lifestyle with surprising success! gave as a gift to someone who elects to live a single life and is tired of explaining/apologizing for not getting married, having grandkids, etc.-- was well-recieved-- will likely give another as a gift
Bella DePaulo has written a wonderful narrative of life as a happy and healthy single. She touches on the discrimination (in the work place, in government, and from our own friends and family - let alone strangers). What she has to say will make you laugh and angry at the obsurd situations we singltons often face and endure. Rock on Bella!
