Isabeau has spent six long, torturous months trying to deny the love she feels for famous pianist Morgan D’Arcy. She stays away from him, refusing all contact. Even after she gave birth to his child, she was more determined to stay away from him. Her ex-boyfriend, John, is trying to get her back but the baby, who looks like her father causes problems for them, his jealousy obvious. Morgan’s daughter, the half-vampire named Eroica, was born with a genetic flaw, a gene that would, once she reached her puberty, drive her mad. After a visit with Morgan’s friend, the Dark Prince of the vampires, Lucian St. Albans, she struggles to figure out how to keep both the vampires out of her daughter’s life. But there is one catch, when her pregnancy was discovered, Lucian, in exchange for guarantees of safety for herself, Morgan, and Eroica, would give up Morgan and hand over her daughter to Lucian once the baby reached the age of 20. Some members of the Les Elus, the ruling body of the Vampyre, had condemned all of them for the affront of making a DarkeChild. They consider these half-vampire children abominations and they are killed at birth. As the Chief Counsel of the Les Elus, he had the power to stop the killing. Morgan’s servant and friend, Avery, visits Isabeau and tries to convince her to go back to Morgan. After a half-hearted attempt to keep him away, she gives in and becomes Morgan’s wife. She also works to find the cure for the genetic issue and finally finds the key to saving Eroica. As Eroica blossoms into a young woman, Isabeau dreads Lucian’s demands to keep the bargain. She has not told Morgan about it and she’s certain he will try to kill Lucian. A rogue vampire, bent on killing Morgan and his family stalks them. And on top of everything else, Eroica goes to college, right into the hands of Lucian, who has his own ideas of her future. I loved this book. I was a big fan of Sinner’s Opera, the first book, and this one did not disappoint. I love the characters, especially Morgan. I stayed interested in the story all the way through and I kept hoping that Lucian would lose out. The various threads of storyline were tightly woven and moved forward with several twists I didn’t see coming. And yes, Linda Nightingale left the story at a high point and I’m now looking forward to finding out what happens with everyone. Sinner’s Obsession is one of those books I highly recommend. Vampire Courage and Discipline Required In this continuation of 2013’s Sinners’ Opera, geneticist Isabeau Gervase and vampire Morgan D’Arcy are finally back together, but their lives have become immeasurably more complex as they move past the stage of their initial passionate but troubled romance and begin to raise their daughter Eroica, who’s not only considered an illegal entity by the vampire world but is also threatened by the onset of madness at age fifteen, due to her genetic makeup as half-human, half-vampire. Eroica learns of her true nature just as she begins to come of age, and now she must also contend with her new attraction to Lucien St. Albans, an ancient and powerful vampire from whom readers of the previous book will have come to expect nothing but malice and subterfuge. Yet Lucien himself experiences an unexpected change in romancing Eroica, and to everyone’s surprise his character begins to evolve after being fixed for thousands of years. As the story of Eroica and Lucien advances, this improbable shift becomes more and more believable and convincingly anchors the novel. Meanwhile, a major plot twist takes the story in a completely new and absorbing direction as Isabeau herself gets a crash course in all the finer points of the vampire way of life. The survival aspect of the Sinners books always fascinates the reader--how can these vampires, even as they juggle their oversize passions, needs, and conflicts, continue to exist in the world of exterminating sunlight, suspicious humans, and modern technology? Morgan and his family ever-vigilantly make use of centuries of vampire survival techniques, as well as their ancient customs and laws, to continue to prosper. The predator nature of every vampire is never far from the surface, and courage and a noble discipline are required of each one. review by Michael D. Smith

Morgan is every girls dream. Albeit a dangerous, but compelling one...
