Overview

Six from Greeley by Josh Langston

Greeley, Texas--a frontier town with a bad attitude and a reputation to match. Who lived in such a wicked place? Several compelling answers spring to life in this short story collection spanning more than a century of life, love and lust in the west Texas dust.

Greeley plays host to six short stories, each focusing on a special time, not just for this hardscrabble frontier town, but for the entire country. The time line stretches from the Civil War to the aftermath of Vietnam. Sin, it seems, never goes out of style.

Some characters come and go; others appear in multiple stories, and some of the most memorable aren't even human.

Six from Greeley will take readers on a tour they'll enjoy from beginning to end, and leave them hungry for more from this up and coming writer.

The Greeley collection also includes the first chapter of Josh Langston's enormously entertaining contemporary thriller, Resurrection Blues, another town-centered story. In this one, however, the residents don't want anyone -- especially tax collectors -- to know the town exists.

Six from Greely is a great collection of short stories that turn out to be more connected than you first expect. They bring a dusty town in 'the wild west' to life through the intriguing tales of people passing through over a century. The twist at the end shows how the collective fates and impacts of the inhabitants form the history and character of the town. Josh Langston's writing style grabs your attention from page one and keeps you wondering after you finish the last.

6 short stories that span about 100 years, intertwine and bring things full circle at the end. As with all of Josh Langston's stories, I find the endings a bit abrupt. Otherwise, the plots and characters are developed. Well edited. An easy read of about 180 pages. You can't go wrong with this free nook book.

Love, love, love this collection of short stories! The author threads the town of Greely throughout each of the stories, which I had never seen done before. The characters are intriguing, fun, and memorable (a hallmark of the author),the writing is clever, and the stories well crafted. Snap this one up for an entertaining and enjoyable read!

Decent short stories which interconnect over the history of the old west town.

Each of the stories worked well by itself; together, the six make an interesting record of a small, lawless town. I enjoyed and recommend the book. I'll look for more by Langston.

Has its moments, but would have enjoyed it more if the characters and story had been more "fleshed out".

I really enjoyed each story and was impressed that they all were connected to each other and definitely connected to the ongoing history of the town. I would like to have known a bit more about the characters and the town.

The way the author wrote these six stories was very different from any of this kind I had ever read. I wished he would have given a little more detail in each one so the last one would have summed it all up better.
