This is an excellent short thriller set aboard an aircraft carrier. It shows how hard the work is on the ship and how brave and well-trained the sailors must be to work there. The main character is quite likable and the story follows him closely when he's put in charge of a major crisis. Even if you have never been in the military or on a battleship, you should read this story.

I really enjoyed reading this short story about O'Reilly and how he has only sixty-four days left until retirement, then he can relax and enjoy the rest of his life with his beloved wife; until an unfortunate tragedy happens on the ship. The writing was so descriptive that I could picture myself being on the ship surrounded by all the chaos  going on; hearing the deafening roar of the air-crafts engine as the heat of the fire singed the body. If you love to read short stories or even if you just imagined what it would be like on a Navy ship should an unfortunate tragedy happen, then this is a must read story for you. I look forward to reading this author's future work.

Shows how hardcore US Navy sailors really are. Great main character in a TOUGH situation!

This free short is a rare gem -- a perfect suspense thriller that is well written with good grammar, great characters and a solid plot. It's a classic short story, a sea adventure yarn set on a massive aircraft carrier far out on the open ocean. The way it's told, it's easy for the non-military type of person to follow along and learn a thing or to about being aboard a ship a sea. Thanks to the author for writing a good story and giving it away for free.

If you like danger, suspense and adventure this story (Sixty-Four Days) is the right story for you. I learned a lot about jet airplanes, aircraft carriers and fighting fires aboard a ship at sea from reading this exciting tale. Best of all was the main character who was presented as an old sailor, but he was revealed to have great depth of character and courage (and a good sense of humor). I also read a novel by this author and it was great (Sailors Take Warning) so that's why I decided to read this one. I was not disappointed. Torres is a good writer.

What a wonderful story; fully realized. The scenes on the ship were beyond tense. The old chief is a real hero. When it comes to sea stories, Torres knows how to spin a yarn and entertain.

Great character, plot and setting! Torres drops you onto the flight deck aboard O'Reilly's ship and within moments you are thoroughly engrossed in a suspenseful situation. Every page amps up the action. I've read thousands of short stories and this is on one of the best. Bonus points for originality because I've never read a story about a US Navy sailor. I want to read more by this author.

This story kicks butt! Tough Navy guys find themselves in a real jam, but it's just another day at work for them, risking their lives. It was nice to read because I felt like I really got to know the main character (tough yet tender guy). I'd like to read more stories with this character.

After the first couple pages this story took off like a bat out of hell. The first few scenes had me wondering if I was going to like it because they seemed to have a tone that I wasn't too sure I would like. . . but then BAM! the story took off. I realized the first page or two was just a set up that came back around to make the story so much better. Read it. That's all I can say . . . read it.

When I saw a tweet for this free ebook, the US Navy story line peaked my interest. I was not expecting much but this exciting tale really delivered the good. With several great characters in a very difficult situation, the tension was high from beginning to end. The author has some great writing skills and subtle humor. At the end there was a free sample of the author's novel, another US Navy thriller so now I'm reading that and it's off to a good start also.

Fans of sea stories will love this one and it's free! There's an old sailor who is dreaming of retirement but he's got to face one last disaster at sea. This story shows how complex and dangerous it is working on the flight deck of a super carrier. The best thing about the story is the main character and the way he handles the situation.

This story kicked butt! I was hooked with the first paragraph and read so fast I had to read it a second time to savor the characters and the plot.

It read like a bunch of fluff. The writing was pretty and poetic, but it wasn't really a story. Swing and a miss for me.

This story about tough Navy guys brought a tear to my eye. The relationship between the men is touching. The author makes you feel like you are there on the ship. I've been reading sea stories and other nautical fiction on the Malcolm Torres blog for a while. He is a great writer. #SeaStory #NauticalFiction
