Sketch Book for the Artist takes its journey of investigation beyond the shores of Fine Art, covering a wide range of themes from portraits to plant studies and still life, and showing how to tackle each subject in a variety of different ways. From quick pencil sketches to fully finished color studies, the author uses "drawing classes" throughout the book to skillfully demonstrate each technique. Alongside drawings by famous Masters, the book uses the artist's drawing book as the center of its investigation, examining attitudes and demonstrating techniques that will excite the imagination and enhance the skills of the reader.

My husband and I are both working artists and teachers of fine art and photography. As we thumbed through the book, we were inspired and delighted by the 250+ pages which contained many examples of art, whether it be landscape, still life, portraits or abstract, various styles of rendering, complete with instruction and narrative about the art and artists the author is depicting - from Picasso to Durer and beyond. This book is inspiring, whether beginner or advanced. It will be a good review for me, as there is always something new to be learned no matter how advanced one is. I plan on using it to fine tune some of my sketching skills, as well as inspire some classroom lessons. One of the best art book buys I have come across in a long time, at a bargin no less!
I've only worked through the first few chapters, the exercises in the book have had a tremendous impact on my drawing so far. This book is so cool because it's almost like an art history book and drawing course in one. Love it!!
This book has great examples of artwork and has great procedures to go about making objects, people, and animals in a whole new way. I enjoy this book, because it gives me great practice to draw things and it gives me the inspiration to draw all the things in my environment.
